How To Make A Shirley Temple Drink

My children love to order Shirley Temple drinks while out at restaurants. Nothing beats searching for those prized cherries on the bottom of their cups, right? I wanted to share a quick recipe showing you how to make a Shirley Temple drink at home just in case you wanted to surprise your little ones tonight.

How To Make A Shirley Temple Drink

Now, here’s the thing… when I make this drink at home, I revise the Shirley Temple recipe and cut a few calories out. You do NOT have to do this!! You can make it the traditional way – just as you please!

But I want to show you a few different scenarios to get you thinking about how you can save either time or money on this traditional kid’s favorite!

Watch the video to hear me explain my thoughts about how each of these work. I even open up about how my grandmother SWEARS she created Cherry 7-Up. LOL! True story.

Shirley Temple Drink Recipe – Option 1

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of grenadine
  • 2-3 Maraschino Cherries
  • Cup of 7-Up or Sprite

Shirley Temple Drink Recipe – Option 2

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of grenadine
  • 2-3 Maraschino Cherries
  • Cup of Seltzer

Shirley Temple Drink Recipe – Option 3

  • 2-3 Maraschino Cherries
  • Pour some juice in from the Maraschino Cherries jar into your drink
  • Cup of 7-Up or Sprite

Each Shirley Temple drink option will give you a different taste, naturally. The traditional recipe is option 1. That is the order you will receive when you ask for it in a restaurant and honestly… it has the most calories (and tastes the sweetest).

When I am home, I usually turn towards option 2. A little grenadine and seltzer can go a long way! The kids might fight you on this, but they could always have water instead…. That’s what I tell my little ones. 🙂

Do you make Shirley Temples at home? Do you just use the juice from the cherry jar or do use grenadine? Would love to hear!
