Homemade Mini Apple Pie Recipe

This easy recipe for Muffin Tin Mini Apple Pies will offer you all the flavors you crave from your favorite farmer’s pie stand without having to get into your car and hit the road. The homemade pie crust is easier to make than you think and is the perfect portion size for an after-school treat.

Personally, I like to purchase pre-made crusts to save myself some time, but I still supply you with my grandmother’s traditional recipe. Both will turn up a golden brown once you are down, thanks to the unsalted butter we use. Besides, once you fill the pie with our tart apple mixture, the combination cannot be matched.

How To Make Apple Mini Pies

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Roll your pie crust out and use a round circle cookie cutter (or even the top of a peanut butter jar!) to create dough circles.

Scoop the apple mixture on top of each pie crust circle making sure to not fill to the ends. Fold the edges of the pie crust over the apple mixture. Bake for 20 minutes. Let cool on wire racks. Top with ice cream and serve! The sweet apple filling will go wonderfully with the ice cream.

We like to enjoy the warm apple pie immediately, but you can serve the next day at room temperature as well. The apple chunks and apple slices taste delicious any which way.

Here’s a few kitchen tips for your mini pie dessert idea:

  • If you happen to have excess apple topping that didn’t make it into your apple pie crusts, save it! You can use it to top some of your favorite frozen treats.
  • You can use a biscuit cutter to help make the circles for your mini pies.
  • If you want to step up your game, be sure to try to serve this dish with caramel ice cream. It is such an excellent idea! The homemade apple pie filling works perfectly with caramel.
  • Do not work with cold butter with this recipe. It will make the process more difficult. The butter mixture should be softened when working with the apple pie filling.
