I’m so excited to share this recipe for brownies from my reader Shannon. They look SO GOOD!!!
Ingredients:
- 3 sticks melted butter, still warm
- 3 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 *tablespoon* vanilla
- 1 cup (or more if you want them super dark) cocoa powder – I used this new “Dark Cocoa” and O.M.G. I will never go back to the other
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 (3.5 oz) dairy milk bar or 1 (4.5 oz) Hershey’s symphony bar- OR any other gooey, sinful, delightful filling you choose.
Step 1: Beat the sugar and butter together until the mixture gets shiny and pale. Add the eggs one at a time and then add the vanilla. Beat this mixture for about 2-3 minutes, until fluffy.

Step 2: Meanwhile mix the flour, cocoa, and salt, then SLOWLY add to the wet ingredients, hopefully avoiding the dreaded ‘cocoa cloud of doom’. Scrape the bowl once they’re blended, then beat for another minute or so.
Step 3: Spread about 60% of the batter in the bottom of your greased pan, then break up the milk chocolate bar/whatever your mystery ingredient is, into chunks with your fingers and sprinkle over, then sprinkle over the semisweet chocolate chips.
Spread the rest of the brownie batter over the chocolate, then bake at 350 for about 35-40 minutes. YUM.
The possibilities are endless with this. A friend likes dark chocolate covered cherries in the middle, Caramello is good, too, or Oreos, or marshmallows, caramel….they all sound sound excellent. Friends have used peppermint patties at Christmas time, too. I have also used a jar of “Polaner All Fruit”. YUM!
Step 4: ENJOY!!
