This easy homemade pizza bagel recipe does the trick around lunchtime. It satisfies my hunger, is super fast to make, and prevents me from ordering out!

I usually make these pizza bagels after a pasta night because odds are I have a pot of leftover marinara sauce. If it’s all about being budget-conscious, then I want to make sure I am using as much of my leftovers as humanly possible.

So, when working out your weekly menu, consider this option the day after spaghetti is served.

You don’t need many ingredients to get started. I headed to the Thomas’ Bagel outlet and picked up three different types of bagel sleeves for $4 all in. I already had shredded cheese on hand because… I’m half Italian.

And like I said, I had leftover gravy from the night before. If you don’t have any leftovers to lean on, you could absolutely open up your favorite premade jarred brand. That’s up to you.

Homemade Pizza Bage Recipe Directions

Unlike my easy pizza casserole recipe, this dish will take you no time to prep. There’s no water to boil or time to wait. It’s all about assembly. Usually, when I make lunch, I search for a quick fix. A sandwich. A bowl of soup.

Something I can heat up with little to no effort. These fall right in line with my choices. By the way, you thought I was going to say a salad, right? LOL! Wrong blog.

How to make pizza bagels

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Line up your bagels on a sheet pan. I don’t oil the pan ahead of time, but I suppose you could if you’d like. Top your bagels with heaping spoonfuls of your leftover spaghetti sauce.

You might notice that mine has chunks of tomatoes, garlic, and carrots. Yes! I love to make my sauce with carrots and I cannot remember which family member taught me to do this.

Either way, I love to add them because they offer a bit of sweetness to the gravy and give my children another way to eat vegetables. I homestyle chunk cut everything. There is no dicing in my house. So, do what you can and move on.

Next up, top your bagels and sauce with shredded mozzarella cheese. I don’t particularly measure here. I just go around and make sure that I have every part covered. Then top with your herbs of choice.

sprinkle cheese on sauce

I just use oregano, but you can get fancier if you’d like. Salt and pepper as a top layer.

This last part is absolutely optional. I drizzle a bit of olive oil over the tops of the homemade pizza bagels. You do not have to do this, but I think it adds another layer of flavor to it.

You don’t have to be really heavy with your hand. In fact, I used to have this olive oil mister (affiliate link) which I LOVED, but it broke and I need to replace it. I had it for about 10 years. It did me well.

That would be the best option for this. A light spray of olive oil is all that this pizza bagel recipe calls for.

How to make pizza bagels

I cooked my bagels for about 18-20 minutes. I checked them and thought they needed a few more minutes and then left them in for about 3 more minutes. I would advise you to do the same.

I also want to note that if you are using your top oven, you should check more frequently. I cook everything in my bottom portion of the oven because my top oven was created in the pits of hell. You can’t make anything up there. It ALL burns in a matter of minutes.

So, these homemade pizza bagels were made in the bottom portion of my oven at 375 for about 23 minutes. Take that as you will. You know your oven.

And there you have it. The easiest pizza bagel recipe this side of the Mississippi. Actually, I don’t know if that is true, I’ve just always wanted to say something like that.

If you are looking to cook more meals from the blog, here are some to consider:

Can You Make Bagels In The Microwave?

I would advise against that. When you put bread in the microwave, it’s warm and gooey for about 4 seconds and then it hardens and loses its luster. Unless you plan on shoving this whole bagel in your mouth without actually enjoying it, stay away from the microwave.

Can You Freeze Bagels Ahead Of Time?

Yes! We buy bagels on sale all the time and pop them in the freezer until we are ready to use them. Bread too – just as an FYI. When there is a deal, don’t be afraid to buy an extra loaf or two and throw it all in the freezer.

When you are ready to defrost, just take the bagels out and place them on your counter for about 24 hours. It will naturally defrost. Once your bagel completely defrosts, you can then use this recipe.

Can I Use A Toaster Oven To Make Pizza Bagels?

Yes, and in fact, you can actually just make one bagel at a time if you use a toaster oven. So, this is really a great option. We just don’t have a toaster oven anymore and have to rely on the oven these days.
