Blueberry applesauce made in the slow cooker is an easy fall side dish for your family to enjoy. I like to make this recipe during apple-picking season because I always seem to have too many apples in my kitchen and not enough people to eat them. Homemade applesauce is a great way to get through a dozen apples without waste.

Slow Cooker Blueberry Applesauce Recipe
The best part about this slow cooker recipe is that it needs only four ingredients, none of which is sugar. I’m really trying to be more thoughtful about what I cook at home, and this is a great recipe to keep in my back pocket.
Ingredients:
- 12 apples – peeled and cubed
- 1/3 cup of water
- 1 1/2 cups of frozen wild blueberries
- 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions
Place all of your ingredients into your slow cooker. Stir to combine. Cook on high for 3.5 hours.
Use a meat grinder or a potato masher and mush everything at the end. I tend to do this very lightly as I prefer chunky applesauce.
Making slow cooker applesauce is so much fun and is easy enough for children to do it on their own. You can serve at room temperature or serve chilled.

Tips and Variations
- If you don’t have blueberries – add whatever you have on hand! Peaches? Raspberries? Go for it! Peach applesauce follows the same process.
- You can use an immersion blender or a food processor to get smoother applesauce, but I like the chunkier version and typically just lightly press down on the fruit sauce once cooked.
- This healthy snack has no sugar added. However, if you want to make it a bit sweeter, you could add a teaspoon of brown sugar or maple syrup before cooking. I prefer my homemade applesauce without it. Added sugar really sweetens this side dish up exponentially.
- The variety of apple matters. I used what I had on hand, but some prefer Granny Smith apples.
- Feel free to use fresh blueberries. I used frozen blueberries because I had them on hand. This blueberry applesauce recipe works with both types of berries.
- Consider using this fruit mixture to top ice cream. You can also consider it homemade baby food!
- If you have a cinnamon stick, add it to the crock pot before starting the cooking process.
The Fall is my absolute favorite season! There are so many great flavor profiles to explore. Chunky applesauce goes with everything and is a side that your whole family will enjoy.
