To make chocolate chip cookies with cake mix, all you really need is a yellow cake mix box, vegetable oil, chocolate chips, and a few eggs. Of course, if you’d like to spruce up your cookie bars, you can do that and make this recipe your own! But the base is easy enough.
How To Make Chocolate Chip Cookies With Cake Mix – 4 Ingredient Cake Mix Cookie Bars
The reason why I love to make cake mix cookie bars is because you don’t have to worry about balling out individual sized cookies! This means that prep for this dessert takes less than 5 minutes. Once you mix all the ingredients together, you simply place everything into a prepared dish and bake.
Then you can top with whatever you’d like – like a dollop of Cool Whip or a scoop of ice cream! Or you can serve it like a traditionalist and hand out the goods with nothing on it at all. By the way, this is how I like to eat this special treat.
Can I Use Other Cake Mix Flavors Besides Yellow?
If you are wondering whether or not you can use other cake mix flavors besides yellow, yes! You can! What kind of cookie bar do you want? Chocolate cake? Red Velvet? Lemon? How about birthday cake? Super fun! The choice is up to you.
What Determines The Thickness Of These Cookie Bars?
You can adjust the thickness of your cookie bars and it’s easier than you think. The cookie bar thickness actually depends on how large of a baking dish you use. Think about it – the smaller the dish, the THICKER the bar. Please adjust your cooking time accordingly.
Cake Mix Cookie Bars Ingredients
- I box of yellow cake mix
- 2 cups of chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup of olive oil

How To Make Cake Mix Cookie Bars
If you are looking to make soft, chewy cake mix cookie bars, you start off by mixing your cake mix, vegetable oil and eggs together. Leave the chocolate chips out for now. Combine with a mixer or by hand.
Once the cake mix, oil and eggs are mixed, toss in the chocolate chips and manually combine.
Spray a 9×13 pan and place your batter evenly throughout. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cookie bars from cake mix are easier than you think! Like I said, in about 30 minutes and with just 4 ingredients – your family will be all smiles and ready for some dessert.
What Can I Add To My Chocolate Chip Cookie With Cake Mix Dessert?
There are plenty of things you can add to this chocolate chip cookie with cake mix dessert. How about caramel chips or butterscotch chips? A dash of vanilla or almond extract? Do you have any marshmallows? How about FLUFF? Look around your house and see what you have on hand and get creative!
Some people even add instant pudding to their cake mix cookie bars and I plan on working on another variation of this dessert using pudding soon enough! Stay tuned.
That’s what I love about baking – it’s all about how creative you can get with what you have on hand.
