DIY Valentine's Decorations

Here’s an easy tutorial for a DIY Valentine’s decoration craft that is just too sweet to pass up. This handmade Valentine’s Day Pennant Banner is filled with hugs and kisses and is perfect for the upcoming holiday.

This easy craft project is not only perfect to make for Valentine’s Day, but you can leave it up year-round too (I’ll be hanging it in my bedroom). It’s really perfect for any occasion, you can just change the pegs to a color that best matches your holiday decor.

Whenever possible I prefer to have crafts that I can use and re-use for just about any occasion or just for everyday life, it means less ‘stuff’. The best part is that this project is so easy kids can make it a great weekend project for them.

What You Need:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • White cardstock
  • Sticky dots (or my favorite tacky craft putty)
  • Paint and a paintbrush
  • Wood pegs
  • Rope, string, or ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Circle hole-punch (optional)

How To Get Started

The first step is to cut the main pieces for the pennant banner. I like to cut out just one, and then use that as a template, trace around it, and cut out all the others so they are identical. This DIY Valentine’s decoration is super simple. I promise!

Next, you need to cut out the circle from cardstock. I have an adjustable Fiskar’s circle cutter that I love because I only need one cutter to make just about any size circle for craft projects.

If you don’t have one, then trace around a glass and cut out your circles, just make sure that they will fit onto the corrugated cardboard.

Attach your circle to your pennant cut-out using sticky dots or tacky putty. I prefer these over glue because it gives it a more dimensional look raising the circle a little off the corrugated cardboard while creating this DIY Valentine’s Decoration.

Dip your paintbrush into the paint, then brush a little excess off before painting the ‘X’ and ‘O’ onto the circle.

The final step is to attach each of your ‘X’ and ‘O’ pennants onto a piece of rope or string using pegs. We are almost done with this DIY Valentine’s decoration! Love it! Now all you need to do is hang it up wherever you’d like. AMAZING!!
