Valentine’s Day Treat For Kids: No Candy Required! #SweetAsCandy

IMG_1515

Ever since becoming a parent, Valentine’s Day has become a holiday with a duel meaning. Sure, it means something romantic and special for my husband and I… but it also means classroom parties and gifts for the kids. They ALWAYS look forward to creating and distributing little packages for their friends. This year, my kids and I thought that we would try a more healthier alternative to the typical candy and chocolate route. After all, do we really need ANOTHER over-sized chocolate heart (that mom usually trashes anyway because she doesn’t want anyone in her house eating them)?  Cuties & Mighties is helping families encourage kids to swap sweets for fresh fruit this Valentine’s Day and I couldn’t be happier about it! I’ve teamed up with them to come up with an idea that incorporates Cuties and crafts for the upcoming holiday – and we had so much fun putting it together!

During our recent food shopping trip, I picked up some Cuties and then headed to my local craft store for some supplies. Here’s what you need to replicate this EASY TO MAKE DIY Valentine’s Day gift for classroom friends.

Supplies Needed For Your Sweet As Candy Valentine’s Day Treat Bag:

  • Cuties Fruit
  • 3 Markers – Red, Orange, Green
  • Heart Shaped Tags
  • Red Bag Filling
  • Self Sealing Gift Bags
  • Mini Glitter and Foil Clothespins — (if you can’t find these, you can substitute for red ribbon)
  • Heart Stickers

Directions:

Be sure to have your child put together these DIY baggies. They are THAT easy!! Trust me!

Step One:  Stuff the bottom of the bag with a handful of red filler. You’ll want to add enough to cover about 1/3 of the bag.

Step Two: Add two Cuties! If you have a bigger bag, feel free to add one more. This is the perfect snack for kids. They are sweet and scrumptious and hit the spot when it comes to after school snacking. My three children cannot get enough and I am sure that every friend at school will feel the same way.

BONUS: You won’t have to worry about allergies. Cuties are allergy class friendly! No more reading up on ingredient lists! Yahoo!!

Step Three: Have your child write one of the following sayings on your tag:

  1. Happy Valentine Cutie
  2. Hey Cutie! Happy Valentine’s Day!
  3. You’re such a Cutie!
  4. Will you be my Valentine, Cutie?

The options are endless! Clip the tag to the corner of the bag.

Reminder: If you can’t find these clothes pins, don’t worry! Simply punch a hole on the corner of the bag and tie the tag on with a string. Easy as pie.

You can make these Valentine’s Day goodie bags ahead of time which is also such a bonus! I’m always someone who is looking to stay ahead of the game.

Download The Cuties Anthem:

Make the pledge to swap candy for Cuties this Valentine’s Day by downloading their sweet anthem here: http://bit.ly/1SWfPRQ.

Cuties announced that if they get to 10,000 song downloads the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, a city with top downloads will be taken over by Cuties, spreading sweetness and love. The takeover will be broadcasted live on Periscope, so everyone can follow along as Cuties spreads the love!

For the last few months or so, I’ve really started taken my health pretty seriously. If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you’ve been hearing a lot about my journey to wellness and self awareness. The more I age, the more I realize that the only thing that truly matters is my family’s HEALTH. I believe that children can have a wonderful Valentine’s Day experience with this DIY craft – not only making it but receiving it. As my daughter was crafting these kits, she was giggling and guessing the reactions of all the boys in her class. We don’t need GOBS of SUGAR and SWEETS to have fun. We just need a little creativity and a lot of quality time with our babies.
