Steamed Broccoli And Baby Carrots With Creamy Cheese Sauce Recipe

Steamed Broccoli and Baby Carrots with Creamy Cheese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Baby Carrots, cut in half lengthwise
  • 2 Broccoli Crowns, cut into florets
  • 2 Tbsp. Butter
  • 2 Tbsp. Flour
  • 2 Cups Milk
  • 2 Cups Shredded Colby Jack Cheese
  • ¼ teas. Salt
  • ½ teas. Pepper

Instructions

In a large pot with a steamer insert bring water to a simmer. Add the Carrots and steam 8 minutes. Add the Broccoli and steam an additional 6-8 minutes.

In a small saucepan over medium-low heat melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, keep whisking.

Slowly whisk in the milk 1/3 at a time whisking between each addition. Whisk until the mixture comes to a simmer and thickens. Add the cheese a handful at a time and whisk until completely melted and smooth after each addition. Add the Salt and Pepper and stir.

You can either toss the Broccoli and Carrots with the sauce or drizzle it over the top.
