Breakfast burgers are fun to layer and can be put together however you please. Enjoy this meal any time of the day using the new recipe idea below. A bacon and egg burger is always a good idea.

How do you make a bacon and egg burger? Layer a burger patty with bacon, avocado, sliced cheese, mayo, ketchup, and hash browns. Place these flavors inside a traditional bun or an English muffin.

I began this recipe using Laura’s Lean Ground Beef – a premium, better-for-you product available at retail stores nationwide. Unlike most other “natural” beef, Laura’s Lean product has a “Never Ever” offering. This means their protein is:

  • Sourced from suppliers that raise their cattle without ever using added hormones or antibiotics
  • Always vegetarian fed

How To Make A Breakfast Burger

Preheat your oven 375 degrees. Line your pan with strips of bacon and cook for 18 minutes. Pat dry and set aside.

To make your beef patties, combine your lean beef with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, pepper, and thyme. Add in 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mix. Separate into 6 round patties and set aside.

Heat your skillet or BBQ to medium-high heat. Grill an average of 5-7 minutes on each side. Do not fuss with the burgers while they are cooking. Allow them to cook in place. With one minute to spare, place your sliced cheese on top of the patties. When done, place burgers on bun bottoms. Keep warm.

Meanwhile, cook a sunny-side-up egg. If you don’t like this type of egg, feel free to make whatever style you prefer.

Your hash browns should be cooked according to the package. I like to use stovetop options that take about 15 minutes. Plan accordingly.

It’s time to assemble. Spread the avocado and mayo on the top bun and set aside. Plate your bottom bun, lined with the cooked burger, and top with hash browns, bacon, and then the egg. Close your burger and enjoy!

Can You Eat Burgers In The Morning?

When surveyed, only 2% of Americans admitted to eating hamburgers in the morning, but if you had to have any type, this is the one for you to eat. It tastes exactly like your favorite order from the local diner and feels like SUMMER all at the same time.

And remember, Laura’s Lean 96% Ground Beef is certified through the American Heart Association heart check program and meets USDA standards for “Extra Lean”. So, while we wouldn’t suggest you have a burger every morning, an occasional treat would be great starting with extra lean beef.

Burger Tips

  • Do not fuss with your burger while it cooks. Allow it to brown – untouched – for the allotted time while on each side of the patty.
  • Do not press down on the patties while they grill. This will release some of the natural juices that should remain in the dish. This goes for any method of cooking – whether it be the grill or the pan.
  • We like to make a fried, sunny-side up egg for our bacon and egg burger, but you can choose to do whatever you’d like.
  • The type of bacon you choose for this meal will change the flavor profile completely. Try maple glazed!

Constructing The Perfect Burger

The way you construct your breakfast treat is entirely up to you! However, we found that this order seems to be the best for keeping everything in place:

  • Bottom bun
  • Hamburger with cheese
  • Hash browns
  • Bacon slices
  • Egg
  • Top bun with avocado and mayo
  • Half wrap in foil to eat if preferred.

It isn’t going to be easy to bite this big boy! So, if you’d like to wrap the bottom of your burger with some foil to ensure nothing falls out on the bottom – do it. Also, another method that should get no shame? Fork and knife! I’ve been there and it’s easier to manage an oversized and leveled-up burger with utensils. I honestly don’t care how I look.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Caramelized onions
  • Pickles
  • Salsa
  • Ketchup or Mustard
  • Greens

I not only care about what goes in the food I serve but how it tastes as well. Both are really important decision factors for me when I head to the grocery store. When I cook with Laura’s Lean Ground Beef, I know I am starting every dish with lots of flavor, which is such a plus! And when I serve it, I feel great knowing that the cattle were raised without added hormones and antibiotics.
