Tips and Variations

  • I used a 2-1/2″ diameter biscuit cutter to cut the bread. You can also use the rim of a drinking glass, top of a glass, or a round cookie cutter.
  • Consider adding pieces of crispy bacon to this basket breakfast.
  • As a reminder, you can choose to have a runny egg yolk or not. It all depends on how long you cook your egg. If you want them runny, you won’t need to cook them for a long time.
  • You can keep the cut out center pieces and make small pieces of toast.
  • If you don’t have butter, you could always substitute with olive oil
  • The type of bread you use will change the flavor profile. Consider whole grain bread to change things up.
  • Serve with a side of hash browns.
  • For extra flavor, you can even top with a little maple syrup or avocado slices. Have an extra slice of cheese lying around? Toss it in!

The next time you are in the mood for crispy bread and a runny fried egg, consider making Eggs in a Basket! There are so many different favorite ways to make your first morning meal, but this one is a must-try.
