Mozzarella Meatball Sliders Recipe In Under 30 Minutes – Made With Cheesy Garlic Bread

This mozzarella meatball sliders recipe is a go-to for my family and a great party appetizer for game day.  The great news is even your kids will love this easy-to-make treat.

I typically make huge batches of meatballs ahead of time and then freeze them for later use. But if you don’t do this, you could also buy pre-made frozen meatballs and use those instead.

Once you put your Italian Sliders together, it will taste delicious – I promise. I know when I say frozen meatballs, my Italian grandmother is rolling around in her grave. We DO NOT USE FROZEN MEATBALLS IN MY HOUSE normally. That is just not something an Italian from New York would ever EVER EVER do.

But look… when you are hosting a million people at your house and you know you need to get a ton of appetizers on the table, you do what you have to do.

Subbing The Meat For Turkey In Italian Sliders

Before you even ask, yes – you can swap out regular ground beef for turkey if you’d like to make these meatballs into turkey meatball sliders. That’s entirely up to you.

Once you add the cheese and the sauce and the delicious Hawaiian rolls, it will all come together either way. And truth be told, turkey is a healthier option. So, should you decide to make the switch, feel good about it. 🙂

Let’s get right to the Italian Sliders recipe because I know your family and friends are simply going to devour this game day appetizer dish as soon as you serve it to them this Sunday. It’s one of our favorites to make.

Mozzarella Meatball Sliders Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls, cut in half
  • 36 pre-cooked frozen meatballs, thawed
  • 1 jar, 24 oz, marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

How To Make Meatball Sliders

Mozzarella meatballs are really easy to make – especially since we are using frozen meatballs for this recipe. You really don’t need that much prep time to get them heated, plated, and then served.

Just remember that you have to thaw your frozen meatballs before cooking them – this is a very important piece to the puzzle.

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Place the rolls onto the bottom of the pan and then set aside.

In a large skillet, add in your thawed meatballs. Stir in your sauce and heat over medium-high heat. You will want to heat through for about 10 minutes or until the center of all of your meatballs are hot. As a reminder, your frozen meatballs should be thawed during this stage.

spoon meatballs on top of bread

When everything is heated through, spoon 3 meatballs onto each bun – or however many can fit – and top with some sauce. You want to make sure that you have enough sauce to cover all meatballs.

Continue this process until you fill the entire tray. Then top the dish with shredded mozzarella cheese. At this point, you can place the tops on the rolls.

We are almost done! Mix melted butter and garlic together and use a pastry brush to spread on top of the rolls. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until warm. This recipe makes 12 rolls.

Nothing beats meatballs in gravy – like my grandmother used to call it. But I have to be honest here… meatballs in gravy topped with mozzarella and housed in a baked Hawaiian roll? That’s pretty sweet, too!

If you like Italian dishes, how about these other options:

I love how we made our own cheesy garlic bread using the butter and the minced garlic. You can do this with any kind of bread that you have at home. It only takes a few minutes as you saw. A little kitchen hack that the family will absolutely love!

What do you think about this party food idea? Something your football fans can get behind?

Personally, we make this during the week for regular dinner as well – it’s not just for guests. My son LOVES to get chicken parm, shrimp parm, meatball parm — you name it! And it’s the same philosophy.

Hope you enjoy this quick recipe idea! Also consider my Spinach Dip in bread bowl recipe to go alongside it.
