LATB Exclusive Interview with Curtis Stone

I got the chance to interview Curtis Stone, celebrity chef. He’s the star of the new Bravo show, Around the World in 80 Plates, with fellow celebrity chef Cat Cora.

LATB: Spring is almost here! What’s your go-to food for a beautiful spring day?

Curtis: I just love asparagus……you can do so many different things with it. You can grill it, steam it. It works beautifully with steak, chicken or even fish. It’s so versatile. When you steam it, it becomes delicate but you can also caramelize it for a different flavor. It’s also great in a stir fry.

LATB: You’re from Australia. Which Australian food do you miss the most and can’t get in the US?

Curtis: I think I miss my mom’s cooking the most. It’s very personal with certain things I grew up with. Whether it’s a smell reminding me of dinner time….My mom used to roast pork. It smelled so delicious. The minute you walk in the door, you smell it so those are the things I miss about being back in Australia….For my son, Hudson, his mom is still in charge of food for him. One day I hope to teach him about these Australian foods.

LATB: Can you tell us about your partnership with Great Grains?

Curtis: Great Grains’ philosophy is keeping food whole for better nutrition. That’s how I feel about food. I love steaming because it keeps it whole. We also talk about how good the grains are for you. There are also recipes on the Facebook page (click here).

LATB: Which celebrity would you like to cook for and why?

Curtis: I’d like to cook for Angelina Jolie because I want to know why she posed like that on the red carpet…the way she was standing. I can’t believe the way she was standing. The red carpet thing is quite fascinating. I’d like to cook for her so maybe she’ll open up, then.

Curtis’ new show, Around The World in 80 Plates, is on Bravo premiering in May 2012. He says it is a mix of Top Chef and Amazing Race. Click here to read more about the show.

I love Curtis! The show he recently did with Bobby Flay and two others was so fun and I wish they would've had a second season. America's Next Great Restaurant or something like that. It was great.
