We are getting our ducks in order to set you up for a January photo challenge because so many people said they loved my October photo challenge! January is the start of the new year and, for some, represents new beginnings! Why not spend some time documenting your journey?
A new year can mean so many different things and what better reason to begin a creative quest than walking into a brand new date. Once you’ve completed my November and December photo a day challenges, roll right into January’s with a bang!
Where Will You Share These Photos?
There are so many different ways to share the pictures you capture online. It really all depends on the type of person you are.
Do you like to share your photos on Instagram or Facebook? Are you more of a Twitter girl or do you prefer Reddit? Me? I like to sprinkle my love a little bit all over the place. But I spend most of my time on IG stories.
Expression comes in many forms and no matter how you choose to share your creativity, I hope this post inspires you in some way.
Post Edit Suggestions
- Consider heading over to PicMonkey to work on color correction.
- Minted has some incredible card options if you find that you snapped a really spectacular photo and you want to share it.
Why Participate In A Photo Challenge?
This January photo challenge has a wide array of different focuses, but one thing is certain. I want you to get up and get OUT. Throw on your winter coat and see your neighborhood, my friend.
Get crazy and grab a friend! Have kids? Give them a device and allow them freedom of expression as well.
I hope this January photography challenge will give you the excuse you need to open up your front door and start exploring again.

January Photo Challenge – Photo A Day Ideas List
So, what are some things you should consider to photograph in January? If you don’t know where to start, here is a list to get you started.
I’ve added colors, feelings, typical symbols, and my personal favorites. I got as specific to January as I possibly could.
Do I Need To Follow This List In Order?
No! You do not have to follow this photo a day list in any particular order. Consider using this January photo list as a checklist. Work through it as you please.
What About Special Equipment?
You do not need to buy special equipment. If you have a camera, you can participate in any photo challenge on the WEB! Enjoy the journey, my friend.
Tips Before You Begin This January Photography Challenge
Before you start this challenge, here’s my advice, don’t get caught up in perfection. Photography is more about mood and emotion than anything forced.
They could be the grainiest photos, blurry and only make sense to you. BUT IF YOU LOVE THEM… then this challenge will be a successful one.
None of that truly matters in the end. What matters is that you are enjoying your time working through the challenge. If this hobby brings you joy, then you are doing it right! Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
There Is A Reward
Not from me. I don’t want to get you excited. But if you capture all of these pictures and print them in a book, by the end of the year you will have so many amazing memories to look back on.
Be sure to include pictures of your family and friends! It will be great to look back on them all once this January Photo Challenge is over.
