There are some experiences that stay with you long after the final note fades, and my recent evening at Notes & Nirvana was exactly that. It was a rare blend of professional artistry and the warmth of a close friend’s living room. Hosted in a beautiful, intimate home studio on Long Island, Notes & Nirvana offers an immersive wellness experience that I am still thinking about days later.

Founded by Andrea Gonnella, a classically trained jazz musician, this isn’t your average meditation. It is a masterclass in presence.
The Symphony of Stillness
The evening began with a sound bath meditation guided by Andrea’s incredible musicality. Because of her jazz background, the soundscape felt intentional and layered. She moved seamlessly between a variety of insturments, including a conch and vocal harmonizing which created earthy, grounding rhythms.

Working alongside holistic expert Faith Legendre, the session was designed to recalibrate the nervous system. By the time the last note faded, the room felt lighter, and my mind was finally quiet.
The Art of the Tea Ceremony
Following the meditation, we transitioned into a traditional Chinese tea ceremony led by Fayee Wong. We were served a freshly harvested green tea from the Canton Province. It wasn’t just about the drink; it was about the connection and presence found in every pour. Now I know that I like chrysanthemum tea.

A Lesson in Balance: The Chef’s Tasting
The night concluded with a chef-prepared tasting featuring a vibrant, custom Bibimbap. What made the meal truly stand out was the chef’s philosophy on the Chinese classification of food:

The Yin and Yang of the Plate: The chef spoke about the vital importance of balancing “hot,” “cold,” and “neutral” foods. In Chinese wellness traditions, these aren’t just temperatures…they are energetic properties. To achieve true health, one must maintain a balance of all three to support the body’s internal harmony. I LOVED learning about this ideology. Oddly enough, we tend to do this in real-life practice already. We just don’t notice it.
It was incredibly thoughtful how the chef catered to everyone’s dietary needs while educating us on how the food we consume directly impacts our energetic state. I was so surprised that he was able to accommodate a crowd that was shellfish, dairy, egg, and onion free!! 🙂

Why You Should Go
There is something uniquely “New York” yet deeply ancient about this experience. It’s a chance to disconnect from the digital noise and reconnect with your senses. Whether you are a seasoned meditator or a curious foodie, Notes & Nirvana creates a space where you feel seen, heard, and fed. And I mean this both literally and figuratively.

As a note, you are given everything you need. You don’t need to worry about bringing a mat, an eye mask, a blanket, or a bottle of water. Everything will be provided. Hope to see you soon!
