I Didn’t Know I Needed This! 23 Things Everyone Should Own

There are certain things everyone should own, but you just might not have thought about them yet! While spending some time on Reddit, I came across a thread of over 17,000 comments focusing on this very topic and it sparked my interest. I stayed to read the entire post!!

Things Everyone Should Own

And BOY did I learn about so many wonderful items that I hadn’t thought about before! I mean… I have dull knives that plague my very existence three times a day and I just never really thought about a solution. I’ve just been dealing with this as a woman. How silly! But true!

23 Things Everyone Should Own

That’s why I thought it was important for me to write this post because I am sure that we all have different pain points in our lives that we are looking to fix. You probably have a few things going on during your day that you’d like to make easier. I think I might have found the answer!

I’ve summed up my top picks from that list of 17,000 tips and dwindled them down to my these options (with a few personal suggestions of my own sprinkled in) and I absolutely hope you enjoy them.

23 Things Everyone Should Own

One more thing – I’ve already purchased several of these products AS I WAS DOING THE WRITE-UP and cannot wait for them to arrive!! I couldn’t help it. OK! Are you ready to see what I think are the things everyone should own?

1. Whetstone

A whetstone sharpening stone restores your kitchen knives’ full capabilities in a matter of seconds. For under $30, you will be able to prep better and shave time off your cooking schedules. Repairs any dull blade!

2. Foam Roller

foam roller

Why do you need a foam roller – you ask? For $15, this tool helps with balance, strengthening, flexibility, and rehab exercises. Travels easily and stores beautifully under your bed.

3. Motion Sensor Night Lights

This is such a great idea especially if you have children or older parents living with you! We have motion sensor night lights all around the outside of our house, but none inside.

Have you considered putting these in your bathroom? Or around the toilet? Yes, they have night lights for a toilet. Didn’t think that would make it onto my things everyone should own list, did ya?

blue light

Think about it – when it’s late at night and you just have to go to the bathroom, you can quickly run in and out and not worry about disturbing anyone because you will be guided by a light blue hue ($23.99) from the bowl of your toilet. It works!

3. Jumper For Car

battery charger

Everyone should have a battery jumper for their car. It’s just common sense. You never know when you will get stuck. This model will run you $157 and is the most popular on Amazon, but I found this option for $39 if you are on a budget.

4. Noise Canceling Headphones

If you are someone who works in a noisy environment and needs to protect your ears, or if you are someone who travels and just doesn’t want to hear what your seatmates are talking about, noise-canceling headphones are a must.

These 3M Worktunes will run you $40 and come highly recommended. They also have Bluetooth tech built-in. So, listen to whatever you’d like while out and about.

5. Blackout Curtains

blackout curtains

I don’t know where my life would be without blackout curtains. I mean it – literally. I am such a light sleeper. It is so IMPORTANT for my HEALTH to have them in my bedroom.

While we are on the subject, you need blackout curtains and blackout shades. Double up! I’m lumping these all into one COUNT in this “things everyone should own” list, but they are separate items. So, consider it a bonus.

6. National Parks Annual Pass

If this year has taught me anything it’s that it is time to connect back with nature! We have spent so much time in our homes, just like the rest of the country, and we are ready to explore this great land once we get the green light.

national pass

A National Parks Annual Pass will help us do just that! Your pass includes 2,000 federal recreation sites across the country and covers entrance, standard amenity fees and day use fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle.

7. Good Ol’ Shop Vac

We’ve had two floods in our house – complete pipe burst disasters. Believe me when I say that you need a shop vac. Even if you never use it, you need it.

If you don’t have one and you get a leak, you are POWERLESS to the water overflow. POWERLESS!

8. Desk Fan

desk fan

This is such a simple suggestion but a must-own. When we start to feel uncomfortable while working, we start to lose focus.

If you know that you are someone who feels overwhelmed when you start to overheat, get this mini USB desk fan for under $15 and call it a day! Thanks to my friend, Julie, for telling me about it!

9. Weighted Blanket

weighted blanket

Do you suffer from anxiety? Are you someone that has trouble getting to sleep? A weighted blanket ($39.99) is actually known to help with these issues.

10 Charging Cable That Is One Foot Long

charging cable

You’re on your bed and trying to watch TV while still checking your emails. But your battery is only at 10%! So, you grab your charging cable and it’s so SHORT! UGH! WHAT DO YOU DO?

You can’t just watch TV without doing anything. How archaic. Thank goodness for a charging cable that is a foot long. Just enough reach to get you positioned nicely on your pillow to waste the entire night away.

11: A Back Scratcher

back scratcher

Listen, before you get all crazy on me because of this back scratcher being a part of my things everyone should own list … remember… these are things you THINK YOU DON’T NEED UNTIL YOU GET THEM!

Think about all those times you’ve had an itch in the middle of your back that you just couldn’t reach. Now, imagine having a $6 device that can help you solve that problem over and over again – for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. BOOM.

12. House Plants

I often think about house plants. I really do. I want to get them. This year, I purchased a TON of plants for my backyard and they really do bring an entirely new feel to that space. I just have to find the courage to do the same thing for the inside of my home. I kill things and I can admit that.

house plants

House plants bring a different kind of energy into your life. They set a different tone to your space. They pump oxygen into the air! This is a good one, folks. I need to look into purchasing this just as much as you do.

13. A Hammock

I have a girlfriend that has a hammock and she gets in it every single day. She loves it more than anything else. Her son kept trying to creep into her coveted space over and over again and she ended up having to buy him one of his own! LOL!

Now, the two of them are all over Instagram enjoying their favorite books and soaking in that Georgian sunshine and I am over here in New York trying to figure out where the heck I am going to squeeze a hammock in my 2×4 backyard. But it’s happening!

14. A Great Showerhead

You know when you go on vacation and you take a shower and it is the most amazing experience of your LIFE? And then you go home and the water from your shower head drips on your forehead and you start to question everything about your existence while soaking wet?

This can all be resolved by purchasing the proper shower head. Multiple speeds and pulses.

15. Dash Cam

dash cam

You might not have thought about needing a dash cam for your car before, but I am here to tell you that you need to consider it. It can protect you from wrongful claims while driving. Ever see people just throw themselves in front of moving cars online? It happens! Or when someone makes a mistake while driving but they are in front of you, so by law you are to BLAME because there are no witnesses? Well, now there are!

Another great perk is that you can turn on your dash cam if your car gets stolen which will help to figure out where your car is going.

16: Electric Toothbrush

electric toothbrush

Nothing kicks off the day like freshly cleaned teeth. Nothing! Yeah, I know you think you gave your choppers a good brushing… but YA DIDN’T. An electric toothbrush gently removes up to 7x more plaque vs a manual toothbrush.

17. Meat Thermometer

meat thermometer

Stop guessing. Stop guessing. It’s time to stop guessing. With a meat thermometer, you can figure out if your dinner is actually ready. This should be an actual kitchen requirement.

18. Fitted Sheet Straps

We actually really need these fitted sheet straps because our sheets come off ALL THE TIME. Our King Size Bed is actually slightly larger than a traditional KING because it is a memory foam and has an extra top layer which causes all of our sheets to LIFT OFF.

This one silly purchase SOLVES THIS.

19. Rice Cooker

I’ve been using a rice cooker to make rice for almost 15 years and will never look back. I have no problem admitting that I cannot properly make amazing rice on the stovetop and I will never turn to boxed versions. This is the only way for me.

If you are looking for great brand suggestions, start with Zojirushi, Tiger, or Aroma. I personally have Aroma.

20. AeroPress Coffee Maker

I’m not much of a coffee enthusiast, so I cannot really express the fever that people had about this product. Instead, I will provide some bullets from the AeroPress Coffee Maker. After all, they’ve said it best –>

  • The patented AeroPress is a new kind of coffee press that uses a rapid, total immersion brewing process to make smooth, delicious, full-flavored coffee without bitterness and with low acidity.
  • Good-bye French Press! The rapid brewing AeroPress avoids the bitterness and high acidity created by the long steep time required by the French press. Plus, the AeroPress paper Microfilter eliminates grit and means clean up takes seconds.

21. Salad Spinner

salad spinner

I never have the foresight to clean my salad before serving it which usually leads to… soggy leaves. I try my hardest to pat everything down, but you know it’s not the same. A salad spinner will solve this! I don’t know why I’m fighting it. This would LITERALLY make my family so HAPPY.

22. Pizza Stone

pizza stone

We LOVE to make pizza at home and do it quite often. But I don’t only use my pizza stone for pizza. I reheat all types of things on this wonderful tool. I highly suggest this purchase to any cooks reading this post because it is more versatile than you think.

23: A Hand Vacuum

handheld vac

We don’t always want to lug out our HUGE vacuum cleaner for small spills. And what about when you want to clean out the back of your pantry? Your oversized Dyson isn’t going to fit all the way back there! This is part of my things everyone should own list – for sure!

A handheld for under $40 is going to do you a world of good! Trust me! This one is life-changing. I should have kicked off my things everyone should own list with this tool!

what we need

Ok, so there you have it! What do you think about these suggestions?
