Sparky And The Case Of The Missing Smoke Alarms: Great App For Fire Prevention Week!

Fire prevention is such an important thing to learn for children! I am so happy that the schools in my neighborhood take it so seriously and continuously do drills during school hours. But, it’s great to have additional conversations with the kids about fire safety at home as well. I found a fun and informative way to do it with this NFPA/Sparky.org Fire Prevention Week app, Sparky and the Case of the Missing Smoke Alarms.

There are games, videos, stories and more. You can have the kids sit down and play with the app on their own or you could walk them through discussion points as you see fit. I downloaded the app on our iPad and really enjoyed the conversations we had as a family. Fire safety is something that should be discussed on a regular basis. We – as parents – can’t just assume our children will know what to do. I felt better after our talk! I knew that the kids were more prepared!

But they had fun too! An app is an app, right? Kids love to learn through their tablets. There’s a website too in case you’d like to check that out as well –  sparkyschoolhouse.org.

Natalie and Liam both hop on and off when they please, but I make sure to make it a family commitment when I feel like we need a refresher. We live in a ranch, but I need my children to know what to do in other types of houses – ones where they will have to escape through a window or get down from a second level.
