Hey, new moms! I have a new book to give away on the blog today and it was written by someone I’ve known for a very long time! How very exciting!! So happy for Maria Lianos-carbone. Such a rockstar. This motherhood book doesn’t necessarily teach you about taking care of your new bundle of joy. It reminds you about the importance of self-care – something ALL mothers seem to forget. I’ve been a mother for 12 years and I keep forgetting to take care of myself. PLEASE. Such a critical message.
There are plenty of books and resources about how to properly care for your new baby, but what about caring for yourself? Maria Lianos-Carbone, founder of amotherworld.com, outlines the proper care and feeding of mothers during their baby’s first year. From the physical and emotional changes a new mom will undergo to rekindling intimacy with your partner, Oh Baby! A Mom’s Self-Care Survival Guide for the First Year keeps the focus on moms because you can’t draw water (or breast milk, for that matter) from an empty well.
It’s funny because the “empty well” concept is something that veteran mothers tend to say to one another over and over again.
If you go down… the entire ship does too!
This is a fact and you will soon learn that as time progresses. But yet, we still always believe we can handle just a little bit more. I don’t know why that is. Is it because we are women? Is it because we don’t want to seem like we are not strong enough? What expectations are we living up to? Whose bar are we trying to hit? I don’t know the answers to any of these questions, but I know that self-care is very much part of the solution. Loving yourself is and always should be a top priority. Thank goodness people like Maria put material out into the universe to remind us of these things!
New moms – please pick up this book!!
