I love breakfast ideas that are not too sweet and these cinnamon-flavored oatmeal scones are right up my alley. If you want to omit the icing to make them even plainer, go right ahead! That’s up to you.
And remember, scones can be enjoyed as an afternoon snack as well. So, double up this recipe and make sure you have extra on hand for when guests pop by later on in the day.

Ingredients For Cinnamon Roll Oat Scones:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick, 1/2 cup butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar mixed with 2 teaspoons water for icing
How To Make Cinnamon Oatmeal Scones

Preheat the oven to 425 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, baking powder, and salt and mix well. Place butter into the bowl and use a pastry blender to cut in butter until crumbly. Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine pecans, brown sugar, and cinnamon and mix well. Set aside.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add egg, milk, and vanilla. Mix just until combined.
Sprinkle on pecan and cinnamon sugar mixture and mix just until combined, allowing the mixture to swirl in the batter.

Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to scoop dough onto the prepared baking pan, keeping scones 2″ apart. Bake for 11-13 minutes or until browned. Let cool before drizzling with icing.

Add powdered sugar and water mixture to a resealable sandwich bag and seal. Snip the tip and drizzle a cinnamon bun icing swirl on the center of each scone.

Tips And Variations:
- Don’t want to add the glaze? No problem! Consider serving these scones as they are or just lightly sprinkle some powdered sugar on top. You could also top with apple butter.
- Add a 1/2 cup of your favorite chopped up fruit to the recipe to incorporate an additional layer of flavor
- Swap out the pecans for another favorite nut of your choice.
