Maleficent Hits Blu-ray & Digital HD On Nov 4: The Tale You Know, The Story You Don’t

Folks. Maleficent is coming to Blu-ray™ and Digital HD on November 4th and honestly… you need to get on that ASAP. I’m not sure if you remember or not, but I flew out to LA to interview the majority of the Maleficent cast during one of their press junkets including Elle Fanning and

Angelina Jolie. I saw the movie before it actually hit theatres and I LOVED IT. Like… not sort of loved it. I flipped out / head over heel / loved it with all my heart. You know, true loved it.

Sorry – I had to say that. Eventually, we took the kids to see the movie and well… they loved it too. We bought every toy that came out under the sun and …here we are.

As a parent, I liked the new version of Maleficent’s story for two reasons. One – you don’t always need a man to live happily ever after / feel loved. That was a powerful message. I also loved how this mother figure wasn’t actually her mother.

Family comes in many forms. It was a far cry from the Disney stories I grew up with. There was no Prince Charming coming to the rescue. Well, I guess he tried but… we know how that turned out. 🙂

Two – it taught my children that there are always two sides to every story. I guess you can say that there are three sides to every story. Yours. Mine. And the TRUTH. HA! That’s what my mother always used to say anyway.

Maleficent was a great way for me to talk to my children about this concept. Sleeping Beauty was one version of the tale and Maleficent was another.

Why was Maleficent evil? How did she turn? What made her so sad and angry? There must be a back story and we got to see exactly what happened in this movie. I LOVED THAT.

Now, we can experience Sleeping Beauty with a new twist. This movie is perfect for fans and new watchers as well. Something for everyone.

As a mother of three, I can tell you that I LIVE with stories that have multiple sides on a regular basis. Children come racing in crying – one has one story while the other is telling an entirely different tale. Welcome to my reality. The magic is intertwining the two together and figuring out what actually happened. Parents around the universe all have this power – I’m not that special.

But sometimes for children, this notion can be difficult to understand. A few weeks ago, we were having issues with someone on the school bus. It was hard for my kids to understand that the child was lashing out because something was happening in his home life. It’s not just about this boy jumping up and down looking for attention and causing a scene. There is another side to that story and I had to help my kids understand that the child was really sad – not mean.

Maleficent is a great reference point for examples like this. You can always point out WHY Maleficent turned evil. She was hurt. She was betrayed. She loved and then lost. You have to dig deeper sometimes. It’s a wonderful family lesson.

Have you heard the movie synopsis yet?

Explore the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain in this wickedly fun twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty. In an unforgiving mood after a neighboring kingdom threatens her forest, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) places an irrevocable curse on the king’s newborn daughter, the Princess Aurora. But as the child grows, Maleficent finds herself becoming fond of the girl. And as the conflict between the two realms intensifies, Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land. Journey beyond the fairy tale in this soaring adventure that is “visually arresting, brilliantly designed” (Andrew Barker, Variety).
