Field Report: Leather Japan 2012 Fall 2012 Presentation #MBFW #NYFW

Leather Japan‘s presentation featured clothing from various designers, including Le Parrain, Somarta and Aguri Sagimori. This collaborative was made especially unique by the collection of bags suspended from the ceiling in the middle of the room. These bags were from Genten.

These leather designs were integrated with other fabrics. The leather used looked very drapeable and of fine quality. The designs themselves were unique and a bit avant garde. Japan is known for being fashion-forward and for being a bit more fearless than us Americans, when it comes to fashion. It’s been my observation that the silhouettes appear to flow around the body, as opposed to clinging to it. These items were very similar to this aesthetic. There were both men’s and women’s clothing. The models were changed after some time so that new ones could come out. One of the items that stood out for me was a Gaga-esque shoe design. The black leather dresses that these were worn with were so intricately designed that the fabric didn’t even look like leather. Who knew leather could be manipulated like that?

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more from this talented group from Leather Japan.
