A Night Of Renewed NYC Appreciation Courtesy Of #GirlsNightOut

Sometimes New York can wear me down. My mother, the perennial New York enthusiast, would scoff at that comment; she hasn’t willingly left the tri-state area in years. There are just days when the commuting, the people, the noise, it all can be a bit much.

But then there are those days when you can’t imagine living anywhere else but this glorious city.

Last Thursday was one of those days. It started when I went to the #GirlsNightOut event sponsored by NARS and Efva Attling at the Efva Attling Stockholm store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district.

As a walked to the event I was pleasantly reminded by the charm of that neighborhood which is not often enjoyed in the daylight: the cobblestone streets, the low lying brick architecture and the outdoor restaurants.

At the event, I was treated to a dry styling by a stylist from Blow Pro, a blow dry bar in Manhattan also in the Meatpacking district.

Blow Pro specializes in the no-wash style, meaning the stylists take your hair in whatever state it’s currently in and style it from there. For me that meant taking my curls made raggy by this early humidity and flat ironing them into silk.

The next step in my 15 minute transformation was a makeup touch-up by NARS. After trying it that night, I am now currently obsessed with their Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in 413 BLKR.

I also indulged in mini-cupcakes from Baked by Melissa:

along with delicious and fresh organic juices from Urban Remedy, an awesome the West-coast based company started by the lovely Neka Pasquale (pictured below with her juices) whose grace and healthy lifestyle are very inspiring.

Urban Remedy will FedEx their juices to you all across the country. And I strongly recommend trying any of their juices that instruct you to “Relax.”

Topping off the night, I took home a bag of beauty products from NARS cosmeticsBlow ProNot Your Mother’sThe Brush GuardDr. Dennis Gross SkincareScented Co. and treats from Monchips and The Ginger People.

As an ancillary benefit, I was able to take in the beautiful jewelry at the Efva Attling store. I would beg, borrow or steal to get my hands on this beauty:

After the event, I scurried back across the cobblestones streets of Little West 12th and watched one of the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve seen in Manhattan in a long time. Then I met my oldest and closest friend, Emma Sheanshang, for dinner at Scarpetta to celebrate the movie she wrote Greetings from Tim Buckley. The film is exceptional and I strongly recommend that you go see it; it’s available for purchase on iTunes and Pay-Per-View and is currently playing in Manhattan at Cinemas Village East.

On my way home that night I realized that having a great New York day is never too far off as it is always comprised of some combination of these unexpected and incredible moments.
