Steak Marinade Recipe – My Husband’s Family Secret

My husband’s steak marinade recipe is world renowned. Ok, it’s known in the tri-state area. And if we can create a safe space here for a minute, I will admit that my children literally won’t eat steak until Bill cooks it for them. How unbelievable is that? Right! I was a little apprehensive about writing up this post because that meant that I would have to admit that he was better at something than me, but whatever, it’s for the blog and I will go there with you FOR YOU. If you are looking for the best steak marinade recipe, my man has it. It’s pretty delicious and he said I could share it. So, here we are.

I feel like I need to say that I cook 99% of all the dinners in our house. Just want to get that off my chest, put it out into the Universe, and let the world know that Bill doesn’t always cook. But when he does… man…. it’s a mean piece of meat. I don’t know what is up with his family secret recipe but it is hot to trot and makes that piece of steak super tender and flavorful. You are going to be absolutely thrilled with your results. Not all steak marinade recipes are created equal, and Bill’s outweighs them all.

One more mental note from me before we get into the actual recipe. A little secret if you will.  The truth is, I like it when Bill cooks. It gives me the day off to not have to worry about what to make the kids. So, while I like to bust his chops on the outside, on the inside I am praising the LORD that he decided to step up and help in the kitchen. So, thank you, kind SIR! Please make another! I’m all about that red meat when someone else is cooking it for me!

Ok, now seriously – onto the steak marinade recipe.

Steak Marinade Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 4 minced garlic cloves

Few things to note:

You do not need to add any salt to this recipe because the soy sauce is VERY salty!!  It is instinctual for home cooks to salt and pepper after every stage of preparation. Do not do that with this recipe.

Combine all the ingredients and place into a large Ziploc bag. Place your meat into the bag and allow to marinade.

Second note, if you can, try to allow your meat to sit in the mixture for as long as you can. Bill prefers overnight but honestly – sometimes we just don’t have time for all of that. Whatever you can lend to the meat will do.

I made a quick stir fry as a side dish. Not really part of the marinade recipe… but I wanted to prove that I participated in a little way in the meal. LOL!

Onto the cooking!!

Bill likes to pan fry his steaks first in order to brown them and he uses a medium-high heat. Once he has the color that he likes, my husband finishes them off in the oven under the broiler for just a few minutes. It depends on how you like your meat cooked. We are a mixed house. I like my meat well and he likes his meat medium. So, he really needs to keep an eye on everything and cannot leave the oven. With the broiler, you should never leave the oven anyway. They can ruin a meal in seconds.

Before serving, Bill also likes to sprinkle some fresh herbs over the meat for decoration and taste. He always allows the meat to sit for a few minutes before allowing us to touch anything. That is another big trick with his steak preparation. The steak needs to REST! (If I hear that sentence one more time, omg) But seriously, but allowing it to rest, you are giving the meat a chance to absorb the juices and the steak marinade that it cooked in. So, it wouldn’t kill you to wait a few minutes.

A little couscous as the starchy side to add to my veggie mix and we had a fantastic dinner. Yum and Yum! I hope this steak marinade recipe helps you in some small way. It truly is delicious. What steak recipe marinade do you use at home? Is it similar to this one? Would love to hear!
