Field Report: Max Mara Fall 2012 presentation #NYFW #MBFW

I stopped by the Max Mara Atelier store to take a look at their Fall 2012 collection. It was an intimate affair, with one model trying on the clothes to show us what they looked like. The inspiration for this collection was the traveling woman. The emphasis was on luxury and comfort, as inspired by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in the film, The V.I.P.S.

10 coats were presented. The fabric used included double-faced cashmere, melton and pure camel hair. There was also the use of fox fur as cuffs on sleeves and collars. The color story was a gentle mix of greys and beiges with blacks. The coats appeared to be very warm but there were also detachable pieces to increase the warmth factor. An entire layer made of fur could be worn on the inside of a coat. A jeweled collar could also be attached to the coat for a glamorous effect. There was also a detachable fur collar. There were some basic tops and pants, as well. The emphasis, again, was clearly on comfort. The clothes were roomy and forgiving. One pair of pants had elastic at the hem. There was a bit of a sporty element to these items, that contrasted nicely with the elegance of the coats.

To complete the package, there were eye masks, gloves, scarves and other such travel items that one would need. I loved the bags! They were simply stunning pieces that were big enough to stash one’s essentials.
