Add butter, onion, and garlic to the same skillet and heat for an additional 30 seconds. Stir in sage and Italian seasoning. Mix well. Add broth and boil, reducing the liquid by at least half. Add cream, salt, pepper, and flour and heat for an additional 5 minutes or until bubbly and thick.

Tips and Variations

  • If you want a healthier version of this dish, be sure to use milk instead of heavy cream. This is why I included both options in the instructions. You can also choose 2% over whole milk.
  • Including white wine adds additional flavor profiles; just make sure to cook the liquid down.
  • Another favorite variation is including lemons while sauteing. The citrus flavors will elevate the dinner and change the bite entirely! You will love the taste of lemon garlic butter sauce for salmon.
  • If you want to bake this dish, set your oven to 375 degrees and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Prepare your sauce in a pan and pour over the cooked salmon when ready.
