An Office Renovation: My Current State Of Affairs

IMG_4303

My husband and I are doing something that I am INSANELY excited about to one of the rooms in our house. We have removed our formal living room – an area in our home that we literally NEVER USE – and are replacing it with an oversized office and photography studio space.

Why?

I think the answer is pretty clear. We both work from home. I could very easily rent space at this point. We are constantly inundated with product review requests and video shoot gigs, but I want to stay home with my family as much as possible. My baby is still so young. He just turned three. There will be plenty of time for all of that later on in my life.

The solution we came up with was to take a space that was living by an old world rule and smash it into pieces. I know the generations before mine used to love a formal dining room and living room. Me? They just don’t fit into my lifestyle. If my plans work out accordingly, we will convert our formal dining room into a playroom for the kids and totally turn this house upside down. But not yet! Right now, we are just focusing on the office and the hallways.

We went shopping for paint over the weekend and while I took this super colorful picture for Instagram, I went with a much more muted version for my walls. WHITE.

Yes – I want a blank slate in that room. I want the pieces of furniture and accents I bring into the room be the pops of color that explode when you walk into that space. The rest of my house is bursting with wall color… but my office will be as plain as jane.

Sorry Jane.

We are trying to work on a budget, so I am still shopping for furniture. I started a Pinterest board to keep track of all the ideas I am falling in love with. Take a look and let me know what you think! More updates next week. Hopefully, I will be in a better place by then!
