It’s official. I decided to lose the last ten pounds. I’ve been holding onto this baggage for the last eleven years and I am so DONE with it. I swear, I spend more time worrying about what this weight looks like on me than actually doing something about it. I thought long and hard about how I wanted to tackle my nemesis and decided that Jenny Craig would be the route I took. And guess who signed up with me? My husband! How fab!!

The two of us are doing the program together. I think it’s easier when you have a companion joining in on the fun. I am so HAPPY to have Bill making appointments and doing weigh-ins alongside me. It makes it FUN and exciting. Of course, as a man, he is losing a lot more than me – but that’s because he has a lot more TO LOSE than me. As long as we are both enjoying ourselves while we follow the program, I am going to call it a win.

In case you ever wanted to learn about Jenny Craig, I wanted to write a little break down of my experience so far. It’s super EASY. There are no points to count and no calculators to carry around… which I appreciate. Everything is truly written out for you in an easy-to-follow menu. I met with a consultant at the Jenny Craig offices just a few blocks from my house and she walked me through what the program offers. The Jenny Craig program is designed to provide structure and support to help members lose weight and learn how to keep it off. Jenny Craig’s program provides nutritionally-balanced menus, which include more than 100 delicious entrees, desserts and snacks developed by dietitians, nutritionists, and professional chefs along with one-on-one personal support from a consultant. 

Personalization is key! When I was handed my menu, I knew right away that I didn’t like some of the options on the menu. I’m just not a fish and chips kind of girl! No problem at all! The consultant just swapped that out and gave me different options that offered the same nutritional benefits. It was really easy! She updated the menu and then handed it back to me. Bliss! Personal support is everything at Jenny Craig! Consultants create a personalized plan for each member because everyone is different. Consultants help members with education on portion control and strategies for behavior change to help drive weight loss and health improvement. And by the way, if you need some extra support, you don’t have to wait for your weekly appointment!

As a mom of three, who knows she is done having babies, I knew it was time to tackle those last ten pounds. I have about 15 pairs of jeans that don’t fit me and that is not an exaggeration. I can go on the rest of my life looking at my old life and giving up on the way that I was… or I can pick myself up by my bootstraps and give this program a try.

To be honest with you, there are a variety of aspects in my life that I feel like I have complete control over. I love my job. I have a wonderful marriage. My children are all happy and healthy. However, my fitness and health – that small sliver of my pie – is completely ignored and it really makes me so sad.

I finally feel empowered that I am doing something about my weight. I’m not someone that eats a ton of desserts. That’s not my issue. I am a portion hoarder. I eat as much as a man. My dinner plate is overflowing. Keep the mashed potatoes coming!! Hold the cheesecake. It’s not my thing. I am a carb loader!! Being on Jenny Craig is making me register what a portion size should actually look like… They are SMALL compared to what I used to eat. But I am getting used to what is normal for everyone else and it is finally working! I am so happy!

I am so committed to this healthy change. This is the start of a new day for me. I KNOW – without a doubt – that even when I am off this program – I will never look at food the same way again because I have learned in just a week the right way to eat. And I’ve been doing it all wrong!!!

You can’t help but do this program right. It is literally written out for you. Every meal, every snack, every addition is written out line by line. I know when I wake up on day X that I am going to have a turkey bacon, egg and cheeses sandwich and a side of fruit because it is written out for me. There is no guessing or fussing. The Jenny Craig plan is TRULY a plan to follow.

I know this lifestyle change will show results, but it will take time. Jenny Craig members following the program can expect to lose an average of 1-2 pounds per week, which is a healthy range of weight loss. Members eat 6 times a day (3 main meals with 3 snacks). This is actually MORE than I used to eat. I was so used to eating three BIG meals with no snacks. This took some adjusting but I easily made the switch because Jenny Craig’s menu includes premium entrees, snacks and desserts, which are perfectly portioned.

Just an FYI, you don’t get ALL the food that you need from the centers. Jenny Craig entrees are the basis of every meal. Members add in their own fruits, vegetables and dairy for balance and variety. So, we went to the store and got yogurt, fruit, vegetables, sugar-free Jell-O and unsweetened tea. They will walk you through this process as well. You can still eat your favorite foods, there is no need to eliminate any food groups! This made me very happy!!!
