Organizing My Life: This Time I Fixed My Shoes

I did my bathroom. Now it was onto my closet floor.

A few months ago, I had my closet revamped by my friend Bryn Taylor. My clothes have happily been organized ever since. We never touched my shoe structure though and it always gave me a problem whenever I wanted to wear something other than my flip flops. You see, I used to stack up shoe boxes – one on top of the other – and if I touched one on the bottom, the entire structure would collapse. It was so ANNOYING.

I finally ordered a shoe rack from The Container Store and emptied all those boxes. Let the kids play a bit before we stored the whole thing in the attic. 🙂

Since the rack only holds 30 pairs of shoes, I had to get rid of a BUNCH. But, it was good to sort through them all and really think about what I wanted to wear again.

Now, my closet looks like this! I am so happy that my shoes are stored in a neat and orderly fashion. PLUS I can actually SEE what I own. I had every intention of taking a photo of each pair of shoes I had and taping it to the outside of my shoe boxes… but that never happened. This was much easier.

My boots are another issue. I own about 6 more pairs without these stands – but they are UGG like and really don’t need to be protected. I did this because my boots would flop over and then things would begin to pile on top of them. I don’t want to scuff my latest pair. They were a splurge and I need to take care of them.

Do you have any closet tips you’d like to share?

Where did you get the boot stands? I've never seen something like that. Can you give an updated review on it in a few weeks? Thanks.
