What’s Next For Sean Gunn And Michael Rooker: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Exclusive Interview #GOTGVol2Event

Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker were really a lot of fun to interview during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press junket.

Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker were really a lot of fun to interview during the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press junket. I was particularly excited to sit down at a Guardians of the Galaxy cast interview with Sean because there is a little foreshadowing of what his character will do in the next movie.  I don’t want to say too much just in case you haven’t seen the film yet, but the last few minutes of the movie really have him pegged as a key player in number three. How very exciting for him!!!

Michael Rooker made me cry hysterically during the film. I’m talking a full-blown BAWL. Oh man…  how am I going to write this post without any Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 spoilers? I’m not so sure it’s possible.

Guys- don’t read this post if you haven’t seen this movie. I need to say a few things that will pretty much ruin the movie for you if you watch it. Please – stop right here and then come back after you see the flick and smell like popcorn.

Ok, we kicked things off with Sean and talked to him about the moment that his character put on the infamous fin.

I’d like to think there’s more in store for that character, but I don’t know anything.  I mean, really, so I don’t know if anyone knows anything, actually.  I don’t know if any of the actual story.

Come on! James Gunn’s brother doesn’t know what is in store for him and Guardians of the Galaxy 3? I doubt it. If I was James’ brother, I would be bringing up every damn thing I ever did for him in his life. Remember when I helped you with your homework? What about when I lied to mom about when you broke that window? Remember when little Bobby Joe wanted to fight you after school and I punched him in the face? YEAH – it would be like that!

But… I can’t fault him for keeping things quiet. Of course, he has to respect the franchise. As a mega fan, I don’t want to know too much too soon. That would take away part of the fun.

During Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Yondu finally gets the redemption that we’ve all been hoping for. Oh man, just thinking about his final scene is getting me all choked up again.  In our Guardians of the Galaxy cast interview, we asked Michael how important it was for him that his character will forever be seen in a positive light, and he had a little fun with us.

Wasn’t important to me at all.  It’s not, it’s not anything. It doesn’t bother me.

What I like about Michael is the fact that he is VERY GOOD at what he does as an actor, but he doesn’t take the after effects of acting very seriously. He gives all that he has on the big screen (and little – I also loved him in The Walking Dead) and then returns back to who he is to the core. No ego. No falsehoods. Just a guy who loves his job and who likes to have a great time with friends. I really, really appreciate that!

Michael Rooker talks about the makeup process for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Yondu is another character that has to go through a makeup process before hitting the stage. In our Guardians of the Galaxy cast interview, asked Michael about what his day-to-day felt like.

The makeup process is awesome.  We have a makeup artist in this room that was part of the makeup.  It took about, maybe a three-hour process to put on and four or five, six layers of different shades of blue and gold and silver and yellow, flax and all kinds of stuff.

And I’m like, what color is this?  It’s gold, you know? They’d flick it on with a brush.  You know, they put it on the brush and they just go and they just flick it and it’s like little, little spackling all over your face, but tiny little dots that helps to bring out the depth of the paint so it just looks like real skin. It feels like real skin, too.

Sean had some work done in the makeup trailer as well, but he mostly had to deal with a new set of teeth.

The teeth can be tricky.  I tried to get the teeth made a good several months before we started so that I could just put them in and work with the talking.  I think to talk through the teeth was ju-, like, in the first movie, it was one of the most difficult things.

Did you know that Sean Gunn also was the physical stand-in for Rocket for Guardians of the Galaxy – both movies. Pretty cool, right?

I’m not sure if you are aware of this, but Sean also was the physical stand-in for Rocket for Guardians of the Galaxy – both movies. Pretty cool, right?!  We asked the duo what that was like to have to film once with a stand-in and then once with their imagination. Michael told the group that the cast usually would have to film several different takes to get it right.

We would film a scene several times.  It takes like, four or five times to shoot.  Four or five good ones to layer all that, all that stuff and you can, you can probably talk a little bit more about that layering stuff.

Sean continued…

We have to do several takes when we, for anything that Rocket is a part of.  We do a reference take.  We’re in there and we make sure we get one or two good ones of those and then we have to do one with a light.  When I’m, I’m just all, I’m doing the lines from just behind the camera.

Then you have to do one that’s totally empty. It’s a whole process.

Michel Rooke admitted at times he was filming more than one movie while on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Michael even admitted that sometimes it felt like he was shooting several movies at once!

The process for doing this kind of movie with such heavy CGI and also characters that don’t truly exist, you know, is, is, it’s like doing five movies, for God’s sake.  I will forever get a whole hell of a lot more money if I ever have to do this again.  That being said, I’ll probably never get hired again for this kind of movie, but if ever I do, trust me, guys.  Producers out there, you better know you better come with your best offer because I know how this sh** works now.

LOL! I love this guy!  A blogger asked Sean what it felt like living die another day. Usually, James kills off his brother in his films. (PS – I did not know that, so that was hilarious to hear)

I die twice in Super!  I was very happy when I read the script of the first movie and I’m like, I don’t have tons of makeup and I live like, that’s awesome.

Now, I’ve mentioned before that there are spoilers in this Guardians of the Galaxy cast interview post – here is one you do not want to read. SO, please – STAHP if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 yet!!  We asked Michael what it was like to film the funeral scene. PS – when he walked in,  we all pounded our chest twice and I literally almost started to cry – I AM NOT KIDDING)

You know, it was emotional.  Very, very emotional for everyone but me. I was, I was mostly, I was sleepy.   It’s true.  Swear to God.

We thought he was kidding, but then Sean confirmed it was true!

When we’re doing the funeral scene at the end where like, and there Chris has his big speech and we’re all there… We’re all super sad and all of the sudden you hear snoring. Rook was out.  I will never forget that.  So funny.

Didn’t I tell you this was a great Guardians of the Galaxy cast interview with lots of comedic energy? I wish I had footage to show you! That man is a hoot.

I hope you have already seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and if you haven’t, book your tickets TODAY!
