Sneak Peek: Timex 2010 Fall Collection

Timex previewed their 2010 Fall Collection in NYC. As always, there were styles for every taste bud. Their inspiration this season was a mixture of vintage original designs and the streets of NYC. Timex recently celebrated 156 years in the time-keeping business and some of their finest, oldest pieces played an important role on the wrists of memorable figures. Back when the pocket watch was the in-thing in the early 1900s, the faces were clearly displayed, minimally embellished and relatively small. Timex dug through their archives and used some of these elements to create updated watches that are elegant and beautiful.

Fashion trend director, Amy Goodman, walked us through how these classic styles are being infused with current trends. Timex was drawn to quintessential NY neighborhood styles. For instance, the Upper East Side woman is known for her accented waist and affinity to heels, whereas the East Village girl loves vintage boots and a mixture of denim and leather. The watches were made to fit these styles, with actual New Yorkers as the models. How cool is that?

The Upper West Side collegiate look was evident in the stripes on the bands of the watches. Timex was dead on with their designs for the Upper East Side, my neighborhood. Though I’m not always about skinny belts and pencil skirts, I loved the Easy Reader, which is a black on black design. The face is black as well as the numbers and the band. The face is slightly large, which makes it look even more chic. It was hard to pick favorites but this one ranked pretty high for me. At only $59.95, its a perfect gift item. Inspired by the pocket watch, there were watches were crisp, bold numbers in a similar font to the pocket watch, with a classic leather band. One of my other favorites was definitely the one fashioned after a 1970s original. With the stretchable metal band and silver on dark face design, this is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine.

These styles will be launching in certain locations, like Bloomingdale’s this September.
