Having read the first book in the Outlander novel series by Diana Gabaldon, I am SO excited that the STARZ network will be premiering the new Outlander TV series on August 9th at 9PM EST/PST on Time Warner Cable. I am OBSESSED with the story, so I couldn’t contain my excitement over this! I wondered if the TV adaptation would live up to how great the book is, so when I got a sneak peek of the first episode, it was everything and more that I got from the novel (don’t you love it when that happens?).
Didn’t read the book? NO WORRIES!! The Outlander series can live on its own as it’s filled with romance, science fiction, history, and adventure all wrapped in one. It is so hard to not spill the details of the show, but here’s the dish on what Outlander is about:
“Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.”
The storyline is captivating and really enjoyable, even if science fiction isn’t your thing (it’s not over the top at all). I am loving the fashion finds on the characters (particularly the 1940’s era pieces), but the best part is- without a doubt- the rugged men. What?! I can’t help but be honest.
It’s hard for Claire to not be a character favorite, given her strong, independent nature, but I don’t know which of her suitors I like more, bringing her own dilemmas of the heart, to life. Claire’s husband Frank comes off as a very handsome and intellectual gentleman-type, but Jamie’s sweet yet rugged warrior presence makes it tough to decide.
Of course, I read the book so I know who I’m rooting for in the end. But for this particular post, I’m keeping an open mind and am JUST talking about episode one. wink wink
I can’t wait to see the rest of the Outlander episodes, and I’m DYING to talk to someone about this show because it is just that good. Something tells me I’m going to try to get the kids in bed a little earlier on Saturday evenings, because I am officially hooked! There will be no DVRing of this show. I’m going to need a LIVE viewing of Outlander. LOL!
Outlander will premiere on Saturday, August 9th at 9PM EST/PST only on STARZ exclusively for Time Warner Cable customers.
