Nanette Lepore Spring 2011

Nanette Lepore showed her Spring 2011 collection at Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. The show started with a live performance by John Forte and his three-piece band. The models then strutted to the live music. Nanette was inspired by watching fireworks over Istanbul Strait.

The color story was a rich blend of corals, golds, beiges and whites. The models’ hair was pulled to the side in a bun. The show started with some high-waisted bikinis done in a floral print. It then evolved into shifts that fell above the knee, in a boxy silhouette. I loved the floral long dress that had a gypsy look to it. It didn’t cling to the body but rather flowed freely. This freedom was also evident in the long pants. They were roomy and most had large pockets at the back. She did an update on the plain white suit by making it a mini, with a boxy jacket and scrunched sleeves. I also loved the new length for dressy pants. They fall right above the knee for a look that’s modest but sexy, in a masculine way. Nanette used gold sparingly, maintaining a casual vibe. The gold dress was tied casually at the waist and did not cling to the body.
This collection was very pretty and almost felt like a resort collection. The pieces were cohesive and would work well as separates or together. To see more of Nanette Lepore’s work, go to
