LATB Exclusive Interview With Rami Kashou

I had the opportunity to interview the talented Rami Kashou of Project Runway All Stars fame. He recently designed a bridal line with Bebe. Here are some of his thoughts about the collection.

LATB: Tell us about your bridal collection for Bebe.

Rami: This collection is inspired by romance, love, glamour and easy elegance. The wedding gowns each tell their own story yet compliment each other as a collection. There are a variety of styles that embrace all brides-to-be across the board from Princess, royal, trumpet, mermaid shapes even to that unconventional bride that may prefer to wear something untraditional. The bridesmaids dresses are flirty, sweet and sexy that easily cross over to any evening occasion with their modern designs.

LATB: What inspired you to try bridal?

Rami: I have been designing evening since 2001 and bridal for the past 5 years. Many brides have commissioned me to design their gowns because they desired something unique and different from what is out there on the market. This collection for Bebe brings elements of my attention to detail that I create from my custom background at truly competitive price points. It was a suitable opportunity for me to join hands with Bebe and create designs that can reach women globally. I wanted to create a new & unique brand for a company such as Bebe where there is room to grow with a lot of potential.

LATB: Why should a bride go to Bebe as opposed to, say, David’s Bridal?

Rami: My muse is always women. Fit, to me, is very important and I always aim to celebrate the female body. While designing this collection, I emphasized attention to detail, which sets it apart from the rest by giving it that special touch that brides seek while shopping for their big day. It is a sexy, romantic, elegant and glamorous collection but, not to mention, effortless.

LATB: Is this a limited collection or is this an ongoing partnership between you and Bebe?

Rami: We are working on expanding this brand and collaboration that will offer a wider range of bridal options and designs.

LATB: Who or what was your design inspiration for this collection?

Rami: An orchestra of gowns & dresses all different yet singing in harmony with an elegant, glamorous, romantic and sexy tune.

LATB: You’re known for drapey, feminine dresses. Was it fun for you to take it up a few notches and do bridal?

Rami: It is always fun to create dramatic design elements with wedding gowns, draping included. Having dressed some amazing starlets on the red carpet, I treated this collection no different as I believe that this collection is for the bride’s red carpet moment. In the end she is the star and my collection aims to channel her inner Goddess.

LATB: What else can fans expect to see from you in the near future?

Rami: More bridal designs for Bebe. I am launching an online store this year which I am looking forward to, that features my ready to wear and evening collection. I just shot an ad for Effen Vodka that just came out in a variety of fashion publications and soon will be on billboards. My fashion on paper greeting card collection is currently selling in Papyrus stores, and more exciting projects are still in development in the near future!

LATB: As a seasoned designer, what are your thoughts on the last Project Runway win, seeing as she only learned to sew a few months before?

Rami: In all honesty, I have not watched it, so I don’t have much to say about it, but I’m happy for the winner as I am sure it was a helping hand for her and the true test is what she will do with this opportunity a year from now.
