Hanging Out With The Deen Brothers And Learning About Whole Grains

The Grain Foods Foundation has partnered with Jamie and Bobby Deen, hosts of the Food Network’s “Road Tasted” and sons of Paula Deen, to encourage families nationwide to make one night a week Sandwich Night. I had the opportunity to meet the brothers and see the cooks in action. The sandwiches they made STILL make my mouth water. I love your typical peanut butter and jelly sandwich … but my life has changed for the better now that I’ve learned to grill it in a pan. One little step has kicked that lunch up 100 notches!!

I digress… peanut butter can do that to a girl.

Jamie says that his family has “weekly Sandwich Night” and it allows everyone to get creative and have fun during dinner.

“Sandwiches have been a big part of our family’s life ever since our early success with our sandwich cart, the Bag Lady. We hold a weekly Sandwich Night now because it allows the whole family to be creative, experiment and have fun. Plus, we know sandwiches are a nutritious choice for dinner.”

Are you looking for some sandwich inspiration? Visit the Endless Sandwich recipe database at gowiththegrain.org. I have great news! You can find exclusive recipes created by the Deen brothers there!!

I had the opportunity to watch the brothers in action.

After we enjoyed the demonstration, the bloggers got to chow down! They had quite a collection. I’m getting the recipes to post on LATB – so stay tuned.

The Deen Brothers were very gracious and took pictures with everyone. Very approachable and full of southern charm.

I caught up with some good friends and enjoyed a whoopie pie that I still dream of at night… YUM!

They said that a lot of people have similar feelings about Paula. She is such a warm hearted spirit – I can completely see that. [...]
