Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
So went the intro over the PA system for each celebrity in The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show before she strode down the runway. And so goes the sound of a healthy beating heart, the very thing that The Heart Truth is hoping to preserve through this event. The Heart Truth campaign raises awareness of heart disease, currently the number one cause of death for women, by reminding women to make positive lifestyle choices such as regular exercise and proper nutrition that maintain the health of their hearts. The Red Dress is the organization’s symbol of this mission to empower women beyond the limitations that poor heart health may entail.
The Red Dress Collection Fashion Show 2013, held in New York City on November 6, featured such inspiring female role models as 17 year-old Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas, the first female and first U.S gymnast to win both the All-Around and Team Gold Medals at the same games. Much like The Heart Truth, Gabby Douglas has inspired women with her message of the value of hard work and persistence.

Also striding down the runway was fitness guru Jillian Michaels who overcame her own less than perfect health to become one of the nation’s leading personal fitness and health experts.

Other celebrities walking the runway included Minka Kelly, Kelly Osbourne, Khris, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Wendy Williams, Toni Braxton and Soledad O’ Brien.

For the first time in 2013, The Red Dress Collection fashion show featured a non-celebrity, Cindy Parsons, who defied a history of family heart disease by following The Heart Truth‘s Follow the Fifty: Models of Heart Health, a program of healthy lifestyle choices, to lose almost 80 pounds.
