Let me tell you a little something about Disney Infinity. In 2013, when I was on bed rest with my son Caleb, we bought the Wii U. We already had Playstation and XBox, so we decided to put the Wii U in my bedroom to keep me occupied. I was on bed rest for 5 months mind you. That’s a lot of time not being able to MOVE.
We got Disney Infinity for the kids (and for me – not going to lie) and we began to play as a family. Not only did it bring us together and provide night after night of laughs and screams, but it also created long-lasting memories. I couldn’t do ANYTHING folks. I was under doctor’s orders and Disney Infinity gave me something to do with my children again. I was so thankful for that game and for all the extensions and the boards and the Toy Boxes. I was so appreciative of the endless play. I needed it! We needed it. I couldn’t take them to the park, but I could still take them on an adventure.
So, yes. I have a special place in my heart for Disney Infinity. A very special place for Disney as a whole. We have invisible Mickey Ears permanently embedded on our heads. Mouseketeers for life! So happy that Marvel and Disney are married now too! Makes gaming that much better.
Now – onto Disney Infinity 2.0. I want to talk a little bit about why it’s a GREAT game, the difference between the old and the new and why you should get this one for your kids.
What Does The Disney Infinity 2.0 Starter Kit Come With?
Everything You Need. How about that? No seriously. It comes with the actual game, a few figures, the Avengers World Play Set, 2 Power Ups (more on that in a bit) and then the Infinity base. Two people can play at once. They select the character they want to be, place it on the base and watch that character come alive on the screen. With the starter kit, you can play in the Avengers world and the Toy Box. The Avengers World has a sequence of challenges that you have to beat – a storyline. Or you can just run around and have fun. My kids sometimes just like to explore the world and kill one another. You don’t HAVE to do the storyline unless you want to. That’s what I love about the game. It never really ends… unless you want it to.
What’s The Toy Box?
A blank slate. Some place you can go to build out your very own world. And it’s not block by block BY THE WAY. It’s really easy to create something REALLY COOL within minutes. The more you play through challenges, the more items you unlock in theDisney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box. For example, if you defeat a challenge, then maybe you will unlock a castle. Every time you visit the Toy Box, you will have that castle in your Inventory to use as you create your very own world. They start you off with PLENTY of options – but the BONUS to those that actually play through the game is gaining additional items for the Toy Box.
There’s even downloadable Toy Boxes!! These are SO COOL. Each week, new ones become available. It’s such a TREAT! We love checking out new Toy Boxes because some of them are generated by USERS!!! NOT BY DISNEY! How super is that?! If you get creative and want to share your design with Disney, you CAN! And if they like it enough, they will share it with the W-O-R-L-D. WHAT?!
Toy Box Game Discs:
You can even unlock customizable games by purchasingDisney Infinity 2.0 Toy Box Game Discs. So, just when you think you are done playing, pop one of these discs on your portal for an entirely new adventure! Love it!
These existed with the original Disney Infinity and are really great. You can either add a boost to your character or change the layout of your land with Power Discs. For example, with World War Hulk (pictured above), a user can alter the look of the board to look like Hulk smashed through it all! Fun little perk / addition to the game.
Additional Play Sets:
There are other worlds available for you to play in besides the one that comes with the starter kit. Right now, there are the Avengers, Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. Will there will different levels releasing in the near future? Who knows? My guess is YES. 🙂 But time will tell. Even if you have characters fromDisney Infinity 2.0 Guardians of the Galaxy, you cannot play the world unless you have the play set. You need that clear piece to access the world that ONLY comes with the play set.
I love this game. I LOVE this game. Understand me. It’s not blood-shed violent. There’s logic involved but it’s age appropriate. The graphics are insane. The free play means that the kids can hop in and out whenever they want without having to worry about following the story if they don’t feel like it. It never gets old! The Toy Box provides for ENDLESS entertainment — it’s the PERFECT game.
