Hi readers – so, it’s been months since you last heard from me. That’s because in the Fall I started grad school which caused many other things in my life to fall by the wayside. So what better way to climb back on board blogging by reengaging with something else I have neglected: exercise. Thus, I jumped at the invitation from the lovely Brianne Manz of Stroller in the City to try out a class at the ChaiseFitness studio inside the 92Y on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
ChaiseFitness is an amazing new type of exercise created by the charming and lovable mother-daughter duo of Lauren and Rachel Piskin. The workout they have designed – originally to create a way for daughter Rachel to stay in shape after she retired from ballet – is extraordinary not only because it combines reformer-based Pilates, Cardio, Strength Training, and Ballet moves, but also because it is simultaneously an extremely challenging/effective and totally doable (even for someone as out-of-shape as myself) workout. ChaiseFitness currently has a studio at the 92Y (you do not need to be a Y member to attend the studio and the studio does offer a la carte classes), another in Flatiron, and a recently expanded Private Studio also on the Upper East Side. However, I have a strong feeling ChaiseFitness will soon go the way of SoulCycle and have locations across NYC and beyond.
On my day at the 92Y studio, I tried the Reinvention Chair class, which I highly recommend as a way of introducing yourself to the workout. Rachel Piskin, who lead the class herself, was kind enough to give me some pre-class pointers:
Here I am (sort of) getting it on my own…
After class, I tasted some delicious Blueprint juice and had a Chop’t salad…
…and then I picked out a cute t-shirt for my friend’s son from the new line Elemental Ts which features adorable line drawings of typical kid fascinations such as tugboats, robots, and sea creatures along with educational information about said things…
…and had my nails painted by one of the talented nail artists from Priv – a new app that allows you to order beauty and fitness services from experienced professionals right to your door. Priv is worth considering whether you want a manicurist or hair stylist to come to your home before a big night out or if you are a beauty professional looking for additional work (via their application process).
Overall, it was an awesome way to get back into the blogger world – I even reconnected with my blogger friend Natalie from Natflylove – and also to get back into exercising. I am headed to my next ChaiseFitness class later today and you should be hearing more from me on other events again soon!
