A bedtime routine is the only thing that helped keep me sane during the first few months of motherhood. It benefited both me and my little one because when it started, we jointly recognized that it was time to wind down and let go of the day. We all know that sleep is such a beautiful thing to an overworked human being… and I couldn’t get to it FAST enough as a new mom ! As a member of the JOHNSON’S Council, I’ve learned over the years that a warm bath, a gentle massage and quiet, calm time are the three ingredients to a perfect winding down routine.
The JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME® products complemented our routine because the products have a blend of aromas designed to soothe and calm your baby in preparation for sleep. My older children still love the scent as well. I love the products because they are allergy tested and non irritating.
If you read my blog, you KNOW that I am allergic and highly sensitive to a variety of beauty product ingredients. This makes me hyper sensitive when picking out products for my family. I’ve never had an issues with this line and I am so thankful to have it as my go-to selection for after bath activities.
Let’s step back for a moment and talk about SLEEP in general. Through research in nearly 20 countries and regions, JOHNSON’S discovered variations in baby sleep patterns around the world:
Looks like the UK is on top of it all ! HA! Guess we need to get some lessons from our brothers and sisters from across the pond.
In case you were thinking about adding some soothing sounds to your routine, you should! Sounds actually help soothe a baby and promote sleep. A study found that 80% of babies exposed to white noise fell asleep; compared to only 25% of those not exposed to white noise. Can I make a confession right now? I STILL SLEEP WITH A SOUND MACHINE. I do it every single night and I love it. I am such a light sleeper… I can’t live without it. I even travel with it when I only have a carry on bag. It’s my MUST HAVE item when I am on the road. I don’t leave home without it.
When you are picking out sounds for your little one, considering these unique sounds:
- TV/radio static
- Ocean
- Heartbeat and womb
- Fan
- Forest animals
- Air conditioner
- White Noise
Setting the Stage for Bedtime
If you have a child who can’t quite get to bed right away, you aren’t alone. At least 25% of all babies experience some type of sleep problem. Your baby’s sleep environment can contribute to a good night’s rest. Think about these factors:
- Temperature: Resist the temptation to keep baby’s room too warm
- Lighting: Keep lights off overnight to help baby sleep
- Surface: A firm, flat surface without soft bedding or pillows
The Results Are In
