Inside The Kitchen: Cool Mint OREO Cookie Balls

I am so excited about this recipe! A few weeks ago I was invited to check out Kraft’s Test Kitchens and get my hands dirty making some of their fab recipes. One that I am absolutely making this Christmas is the Cool Mint OREO Cookie Balls
Prep Time: 30 min. plus refrigerating | Makes: 40 servings, 1 cookie ball each.

What You Need

  • 6 oz. (3/4 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 pkg. (15.25 oz.) DOUBLE STUF OREO Cool Mint Creme Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, finely crushed (about 4 cups)
  • 2 pkg. (6 squares each) BAKER’S White Chocolate, melted
  • 6 drops green food coloring
  • 2 Tbsp. chocolate sprinkles

Make It
Crushing OREO Cookies is a cinch with a rolling pin and a resealable plastic food storage bag. Or, process the cookies in your food processor or blender. MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended.

SHAPE into 40 (1-inch) balls. Mix melted chocolate and food coloring until well blended.

Dip balls in chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.

Top with sprinkles.
REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.

How to Store: Store in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

How to Easily Dip Balls: To easily coat balls with the melted chocolate, add balls, in batches, to bowl of melted chocolate. Use 2 forks to roll balls in chocolate until evenly coated. Remove balls with forks, letting excess chocolate drip back into bowl. Place balls in prepared pan; let stand until firm.

How to Melt 2 Pkg. (8 squares each) BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate: Microwave unwrapped chocolate squares in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2-1/2 min. or until chocolate is completely melted, stirring every 30 sec.

How to Melt 2 Pkg. (6 squares each) BAKER’S White Chocolate, GERMAN’S Sweet Chocolate or Bittersweet Chocolate: Microwave unwrapped chocolate squares in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min. or until is chocolate completely melted, stirring every 30 sec.

Variation: For a change of pace, coat cookie balls with one of the other BAKER’S Chocolates. Whether you use BAKER”S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, BAKER’S White Chocolate, BAKER’S GERMAN’S Sweet Chocolate or BAKER’S Bittersweet Chocolate, the results will be equally delicious.
Note: If any melted chocolate remains after all balls are coated, store in tightly covered container at room temperature until ready to use for another use.

How to Soften Cream Cheese: Place completely unwrapped package of cream cheese in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH 10 sec. or just until softened. Add 15 sec. for each additional package of cream cheese.

I make these with regular Oreos (not mint flavored) and they are a hit w/ the family. The only problem is that I end up with more on my hands than in a ball! Maybe my recipe is a little different than yours. I'll have to compare the recipes....your hands aren't chocolately in the picture! :)

I'm thinking this is a must for my cookie swap at work this year!
