I was asked to try out Virtual Piggy and I was more than happy to do so. It’s a really great concept! Take a look and I think you’ll agree.
Virtual Piggy is the first e-commerce solution that enables kids to manage and spend money within a parent-controlled environment. The technology company delivers online security platforms designed for the Under 21 age group in the global online market, and also enables online businesses the ability to function in a manner consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and similar international children’s privacy laws. Virtual Piggy enables the Under 21 audience to play, transact and socialize in a secure online environment guided by parental permission, oversight and control.
The setup process literally took me minutes. It was simple, fast, and intuitive:
- Give you your name, phone, email, and create a password.
- Next, enter your shipping address. This is used by their merchants to ship your child’s purchases. Since your shipping address will be stored in your parent account, your child will never provide it to a merchant when making a purchase.
- Then, you enter your credit card or PayPal information. This information will be kept on file for future purchases made by your child, under the controls you set up.
- Finally, you set up your child’s profile (you can have one for each of your kids), which will be used in all future online purchasing situations with you or your child. You can set allowance amount, spending limits, approved merchants, notification controls and controlling access. You can also allow other people to access your child’s wishlist so they could maybe purchase those items as gifts.
Your child can then, safely and in a controlled manner, shop at all of the merchants that work with Virtual Piggy. They simply check out at the end of their shopping by clicking on the Virtual Piggy button. The child enter their Virtual Piggy user name and password…never any payment or personal information. The system then verifies that the purchase has been approved by the parental controls set up in the dashboard.
Virtual Piggy is 100% free to use. No signup fees, no transaction fess, no tricks. With Virtual Piggy, free means free! Their service includes budgeting tools and a wishlist, giving young customers their first experience with managing funds and saving for the items they want.
