This week I was invited to attend a screening for Secrets of The Mountain, a made for TV movie that’s airing on NBC on April 16th. While I wasn’t able to stay for the entire viewing, it was refreshing to know that companies are now trying to bring back wholesome television for the masses.
Even some cartoons are just too violent for my children to watch these days!! At least that’s how I feel. So to hear the good people from Walmart and P&G say they put their heads together and created family movies that will be available on network television FREE to watch, I couldn’t help but smile.
The movie, which focuses on a single mother who brings her family to a mountainside cabin, highlights values—such as generosity, honesty and togetherness—that Wal-Mart and P&G executives say are in short supply on television.
I will say that the film had a noticeable amount of product placement. We are definitely not used to seeing name brands so prominently displayed for extended periods of time. But the truth is… this is the new way of advertising. We have to embrace it now because my guess is in 10 years there won’t be anymore commercials thanks to DVRs and the magic of pre-recording. These two companies are just smart enough to get ahead of the curve.
I watched about a half hour of it and I was fully invested in the plot and kept thinking about how my daughter would react to the storyline. I can’t wait for the 16th to find out exactly what happens on their adventure.
I have a little package to give away to ‘Lady and the Blog’ readers. It includes both the “Secrets of The Mountain” DVD and the soundtrack, produced by Randy Jackson. This bundle is also going to be available at Walmart on April 17th should you not win the prize.
