On Thursday Feb 6, I had the pleasure to the annual The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show for the kickoff of New York Fashion Week held at Lincoln Center. Each year celebrities and media personalities strut down the runway wearing beautiful red gowns to raise awareness of heart disease among women.
This year the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) joined forces with the American Heart Association (AHA) to help spread awareness to women across the country on how they can protect themselves from the number one killer of women. The Heart Truth is a 28 day challenge during the month of February urging women to take control of the health and hearts by empowering each other.
The show was very different than what you would expect from a NYFW show. The mood was light, fun and uplifting. First, I have to start with Lindsey Vonn who took to the runway wearing a knee length Cynthia Rowley dress and crutches. Yes, she walked the runway with crutches and brought the crowd to a standing ovation as she stopped at the end of the catwalk and proudly raised the crutches above her head. The 2010 gold medalist had to sit out of the Sochi Games due to a knee injury but that isn’t stopping her from working with a great cause like the Red Dress Collection.
Other favorites from the show include:
Nene Leakes (Reality TV Star) in Dolce & Gabbana
Sasha Cohen (U.S. figure skater) in Marc Bouwer
Giada De Laurentiis (Chef) in Caronlina Herrera
Alicia Quarles (E! News Correspondent) in Zac Posen
Daphne Oz (TV Host) in Sarah Liller
