The Bully In The Back

Last night, Audrey, Lindsay and I spent the evening together hanging out at Epcot and the Magical Kingdom. When it was time to go home, we opted for the boat ride back to the Grand Floridian. The man running the boat was having some trouble managing and actually had to bring the boat back to the dock because he left the gate open.

Was it annoying because I was tired and just really wanted to go home? YES

Was I showing off my frustration in any way? NO

I am smart enough to know that this man did not WANT to have issues with the boat, it was just probably his first week or something. You let things like this go because we are all human and it’s common courtesy.

Then I start hearing this… heckler from the back of the boat start to show off and make fun of the driver.

  • Need a little help there? I can’t get that done with no problem.
  • Uh oh! Here we go again! This boy just can’t get it.
  • I’m going to need a xanax after this is all over
  • Let me show you how it’s done

And on and on and ON! And as IF that wasn’t bad enough, this bully had a sheep of a friend that would laugh at EVERYTHING he said. These weren’t whispers – these were attention grabbing shouts.

I was slowly starting to ignite.

It was OBVIOUS that the man driving the boat was embarrassed and that these insults were getting to him. So, I turn around to say something… and who is sitting next to this bully but his son. My heart instantly sank for that boy because we all know that this is not an isolated behavior. This bully is a bully in every aspect of his life.

So, what was I to do?

  • Shut this guy up and defend the driver
  • Ruin Disney for the rest of that kid’s life because some mean lady attacked his dad during their last visit.

I looked at that boy and then just turned around. Having to choose between the two, I wasn’t going to make that little guy upset in anyway. BUT IT WAS SO ANNOYING.

Even as adults, bullying is still running rampant. It took all but 7 minutes more to get back to our hotel. In the grand scheme of things… WHO CARESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS?

I don’t know. Just had to vent.

It is sad because this kid will grow up thinking this is the “normal” way to treat other people. 🙁
