Prepare For Swimsuit Season With These Easy Tips

Grumble. Grumble. Grumble. I hate swimsuit season. I can get by all year long hiding the flaws by layering and wearing dark colors in the right areas… but swimsuit season leaves me vulnerable. Damn those cottage cheese thighs. Damn them!

Lucky for us, celebrity trainer, Thelonious ‘T.J.’ Johnson shared a few of  his get-fit tips with ‘Lady and the Blog’ to help us get on the right path.

Sit down and decide on a few realistic fitness goals for yourself – lose 10 pounds by summer; strengthen your upper body; tone abdomen; improve your running time – next, write them down on a piece of paper and carry them with you. This little reminder will help you stay on track and keep you from reaching for that midnight snack.

Whether you are supplementing your workout routine or need to jumpstart a new one, adding twenty minutes to the end of each day will give an extra boost to your metabolism while you sleep, while helping you to burn the day’s calories. Added bonus: before-bedtime-exercise will also help to clear your mind, relieve stress and keep you away from tempting desserts. Jog around your neighborhood, take on spinning or a boot camp class at the gym or even jump rope at home.

Coffee during the workday, followed by dinnertime cocktails and wine are not enough to keep you going— water will help you sip your way to a slimmer, healthier body. As dehydration will often lead you to mistake your body’s thirst for hunger, the added H2O will keep you hydrated and keep you away from easy-to-grab snacks when your body isn’t actually hungry. Plus, your skin will be glowing!

Tired of the usual treadmill run and in need of a motivational boost to keep you going? A workout buddy will encourage you to maintain your fitness routine, even if you’re not in the mood. Providing support, enthusiasm and accountability, a friend will remind you of the importance of your fitness goals while pushing you to reach them. If your schedule doesn’t match up with your friends’, join a fitness training club or work with a personal trainer a few days a week instead. A trainer will work with you according to your timetable and design fitness plans that match your goals.

Now that you’ve got your routine down, it may be time to switch things up. As you notice that your workout become easier, your body may not need to work as hard to complete the session. Keep your body guessing, while revving up your metabolism, by changing your workout routine every few weeks.
