Glasses.com hosted a preview of their summer styles on the elegant roof of Gramercy Park Hotel. I always thought of my glasses as an unfortunate necessity rather than a fashion statement. Until recently, I wore contacts during the day – to fend off digital eye strain – and only relied on my glasses for nighttime TV binges. But in the last year or so, I’ve been wearing my glasses most days. Ever since becoming a mom, I’m just TIRED and contacts make my eyes feel even more tired. The glasses I’ve been wearing are okay, but not particularly stylish.
Before the event, I filled out a “style survey.” When I arrived, I was given the results, which were spot-on. I’m “retro-chic.” No surprise since I’m addicted to vintage clothes shopping and my husband is a retro-jazz musician!
This summer style trends were on display, including Glasses.com first exclusive collection, Kensington Road, a “highly-stylized London look.” I got a tutorial on their 3-D Virtual Try-on App for iPad, iPhone and Android. It’s awesome and will make shopping for glasses from home my preferred method. I also found out that they offer completely free, no questions asked returns.
The Bumbys, a unique performance art group, were on hand to add some off-the-wall fun. These masked typists wear headphones so they can’t hear your voice while typing up “A Fair & Honest Appraisal of Your Appearance.” It’s not as terrifying as it sounds! A small excerpt from mine reads, “You are an ace law school student who harbors a very secret power and unleashes that power at night while making law review and getting the best grades in your class.” Maybe the glasses fooled them.
I think glasses.com just became my go-to for choosing new frames. I can already picture the hours I’ll waste virtually trying on specs. Maybe I can get a pair to go with each new vintage dress!
