Field Report: Reem Acra Spring 2014 #NYFW

I had the pleasure of catching Reem Acra‘s Spring 2015 fashion show and, as always, it was beyond stunning. There were three standout  trends that were the focal points of the collection. They were cutouts, new tropical prints and midi hemlines. Reem Acra perused the work of mid-20th century Paris couturiers and fashion photography of that era to create a collection for the modern woman that has achieved the perfect blend of overt sexiness and effortless elegance.

These red-carpet ready dresses were daring to say the least. Bras? Not a chance! These were juxtaposed with below-the-knee hemlines which kept the dresses from veering on the side of extreme. The luxe fabrics literally shimmered as the models strutted the runway. Most were second-skin knits that seemed to mold to the models’ bodies. Most of the cutouts were in front, drawing attention to taut tummies. One dress with a high neck was cut out on the sides, revealing red carpet-friendly side boob.

Midi Hemlines

There is just something about the midi hemline that screams modest flirtatious fun. Contrast that with decadent fabrics and you have looks that are sure to steal the show at any dinner party. The flared waists means a more forgiving silhouette, for sure. The midi hemline is one trend that gratefully made its way to many runways and hopefully will stick around for some times.

New Tropical Prints

Only Reem Acra can do tropical prints on dresses and still make them look evening ready. I loved the playful prints on these dresses. Nothing says spring like effortless prints done in colors that complement many skin tones. The exquisite draping only added to the glamour.

Reem Acra‘s Spring 2015 collection is not for the faint of heart. Start doing your crunches from now if you have your eye on one of her pieces of Spring. It’ll be worth it to completely steal the show in one of these traffic stoppers. Click here to see more from Reem Acra.
