Nanette Lepore is always, hands down, one of my favorite shows to attend during Fashion Week and with her Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, Nanette Lepore certainly did not disappoint!
The Fall/Winter Collection was entitled “Nanette on Mars” and was inspired by the Mars Rover landing. True to theme, the futuristic (but still wearable!) collection included structured jackets, asymetrical necklines, geometric mesh cutouts and lots of amazing iridescent and holographic accents in aquamarine blue and maroon. Adding to the dramatic effect of the holographic accessories, the show started with a countdown to our landing on Mars and the models worked the runway to a medley of songs that all had outer space themes. The overall collection was less feminine than past collections by Nanette Lepore but just a chic and wearable and sure to have me counting the days until fall. The best news of the day was that Nanette Lepore will be expanding to shoes and handbags beginning with the Fall/Winter 2013 collection.
Equally as impressive as her fabulous frocks for fall, Nanette Lepore is also a driving force behind the Save the Garment Center organization that works to “Promote, Preserve and Save New York City as Fashion Capital of the World.” This means that everything fabulous that sashays down the Nanette Lepore runway during Fashion Week is designed and manufactured in New York City.
