So I mentioned in a previous post that I didn’t think we prepared my daughter enough for an upcoming test. We studied with her for two days because we pretty much were given two days notice. That’s how she is – and I know I have to take ownership of that. I’m not naive. She has to learn to be a better student from someone and that someone is me.
We have started better routines and hopefully they will stick. It’s a good thing we started them a few days before school ends… because you know, I’m sure she will freaking retain it all during the break. Grumble. Grumble. Grumble.
Anyway, yesterday Natalie came home from school with her test and I LITERALLY held my breath. She got a 95 but I actually think she got a 98 because one of her questions was marked wrong when it is right.
Does Argentine border Brazil? She wrote YES and it was marked wrong. But the country does border Brazil, right? I wrote a note for her teacher to check and hopefully that will raise her grade some more. I am just so proud of her. When she puts her mind to something, she does well. Or better yet, when I get involved she does well. Every time she has a test that we study for, she does well. She fails when she is unsupervised — like when she just has to write freely in class. That’s when the laziness kicks in.
It’s just about me checking in more — I see this now.
So, how did we celebrate? And yes – we did celebrate. We went out for wings!! I was just so happy for her that we raced to a local restaurant and had dinner out. A real treat!
Out of everything I do – being a mom is the most rewarding title I wear. And seeing her beaming when she told me her grade… well, that just made my year.
Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my blog yesterday when I wrote that personal post. It REALLY meant a lot to me to read your kind words. 🙂
