Giveaway: What Could Go Wrong? By Brett Grayson

I spent some time at Dad 2.0 getting to rub elbows with some of the parenting blogger greats and had a chance to chat with Brett Grayson, author of What Could Go Wrong?: My Mostly Comedic Journey Through Marriage, Parenting, and Depression.

He gave me a copy of his book – which I have been enjoying during my downtime after the kids go to bed – and even offered me an extra copy to give away to one of my readers. How fun! I love to support fellow parents from the space and new friends.

If you are someone who is looking for a good laugh, a sense of belonging and perhaps the realization that you aren’t alone – this is the book for you.

What Could Go Wrong?: My Mostly Comedic Journey Through Marriage, Parenting, and Depression

Book Synopsis: There comes a time when couples decide to create and raise tiny helpless human beings, hoping they one day become non-tiny and less helpless. This is one family’s journey through ten months of pregnancy (isn’t it supposed to be nine months?), the first years of parental cluelessness, the terrible twos, threenagers, and the few years that follow when they begin to learn about a world that’s even crazier than they are.

Join the author and his wife as they navigate those ten months, from the always romantic conception, to her water breaking in the most unique way possible.

Then watch them attempt parenthood, from the seemingly simple routine of dressing their kids for school, to the complex experience of teaching them to use public bathrooms.

It’s mostly a breeze…No it isn’t. Pre and postnatal complications; battles with their own mental health; and those rapidly growing and irrational miniature versions of themselves.

Some of it is devastating. Much of it is overwhelming. All of it challenges them to maintain their sense of humor. And when they attempted to go on an airplane as a family… that was a sh*tshow.

The Truth About Parenting

It’s hard. If you follow me on all social media accounts (and I doubt you do), then you will see all four sides of my life. On Instagram, I give you the magazine glossy version.

On Twitter, I suppose it’s really just business. On Pinterest, I am the perfect homemaker, but on my personal Facebook page, I showcase who I truly am. Sarcastic. Tired. Mostly failing… and always forgiving. I am part of the problem.

I don’t show my full picture on my public profiles. Yes, on my blog, I do post raw, personal updates every now and again… but it’s far and few in between the better versions of me that I plaster over and over again.

Did you know I missed Dr. Seuss day yesterday? Nope. Because I didn’t let you know. My son was probably the only one in his class without a Thing One shirt one.

It was in his drawer by the way… I bought it in September because this was the year I was going to be on top of it all. Yup. 2019.

That’s why I find this book so refreshing. It showcases all sides of parenting. Brett opens up and talks about things I just wouldn’t talk about.

We need people to do that. As I carried through – one page through the next – I found myself nodding or smiling. I remember that. I’ve been there.

Moments of happiness or awkwardness or sorrow or silence or pure joy. Sometimes when you only post glitter you forget how much the small, tiny moments matter, too. And this book is filled with them.

So, I hope you win this copy of What Could Go Wrong?: My Mostly Comedic Journey Through Marriage, Parenting, and Depression. And if you don’t, I hope you go out and buy a copy.
