I had the chance to visit the Single Parents set in LA as a guest of ABC and Disney and had so much fun doing so! I just love those behind the scenes looks at TV shows! Do you watch Single Parents? Such a great comedy! We all could use a little laugh these days, right? Here’s the quick summary to catch you up in case you haven’t started.
This ensemble comedy follows some single parents as they lean on each other to help raise their 7-year-old kids and maintain some kind of personal lives outside of parenthood. When the parents in the group meet Will, a 30-something guy who’s been so focused on raising his daughter that he’s lost sight of who he is as a man, they see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses he has gone. The friends decide to band together to get him out in the dating world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn’t mean sacrificing everything about his own identity.
Single Parents Set Visit – Behind The Scenes Look At The Houses
I have SO MANY stage photos to share with you of Single Parents. I mean – my set visit was thorough! No joke! I think I uploaded about 90 photos! So, I hope you have a great wifi connection – if not, sorry!! I didn’t want to miss out on a single shot. These Single Parents Set Visit pictures are plentiful. LOL
But I like looking at these type of posts because then you can really look at the details on the set. Like – what kind of pictures are on the walls? What OVEN RANGES DO THEY USE? Is that really the same couch throw that I have and did we both really get it at Target? Yes – I am obsessed with these things, too!
We were lucky enough to have producer Jason Winer give us the grand tour. It was so great to be able to ask him all the questions that we had about the set. In the end, I was truly just most curious about how it all fit under one hanger. I mean, can you imagine – all those houses, outdoor areas, schools, and apartments – in one PLACE?
It makes sense – with all the children on payroll, they need to make sure that the filming schedule is tight. There are only so many hours that a child can work in a given day. So, the team didn’t want to have to worry about transporting the kids from one location to the next. Instead, they built the entire “world” under one roof. So SMART! It’s actually quite efficient.
Single Parents Set Visit – Meeting Jake Choi
While Jason was walking us around, Jake Choi (“Miggy Park”) decided to join in on the fun. He’s from Queeeeennnnnssss! Yeah! I had to let him know that I am also from Queens and that we both knew the same secret handshake. Ok, I didn’t tell him about the secret handshake – but you catch my drift. He was super nice and really was awesome to the group. Took pictures, answered questions, and took him time. Appreciated that.

Single Parents Set Visit – Let’s Get Social!

This was my favorite room of the entire Single Parents set. I just LOVED the decor. I’ve spoken to so many decorators and designers during these set tours and I will tell you that while they do work with prop houses, most get their items from stores that you and I frequent. So, think of Home Goods, Ikea, Target – places like that. This is totally obtainable, guys!
Even the mantle!! I mean, I literally have a white fireplace that looks exactly like this. This makes me almost want to throw everything I have in the garbage and buy a variety of mixed matched frames. So much style.
This house belongs to a single mother. So, one of the main points that the set designer wanted to make in this house was that it was messy. They intentionally design this space to be chaotic. Every dish towel that you see that looks misplaced… was actually placed that way to make you feel like there is disorder in this house. LOL! I can do all of that for free. AMIRIGHT?
Sometimes I forgot that I was touring the Single Parents set because it truly felt so real. I mean, look at the way that the laundry is piled on top. FEELS LIKE MY HOUSE. The school calendars. The pictures on the side of the refrigerator. All of it – exactly like home.
LITERALLY even the vitamins in the middle of the table. The UGLY vitamins as the centerpiece of a table. We DO THIS, too.

Single Parents Set Visit – Meeting Brad Garrett
It was such a treat to meet Brad Garrett, especially that weekend. Disney and ABC actually invited me to LA to attend the red carpet premiere of Ralph Breaks the Internet and Brad has a small part in the movie. So, it was a double whammy for him! We told him that we just came from the premiere and he got a kick out of it.
Not only did we meet Brad Garrett, but we met the majority of the adult cast – Leighton Meester, Kimrie Lewis, and of course, Jake Choi.
As I mentioned earlier, the school was built right on set. They had to make sure that everything was close by for the children.
I truly enjoyed my Single Parents set tour! Be sure to tune in this week for their latest adventure! Scroll down for more photos of the behind the scenes fun – including Poppy’s wine bar!
